It took 10 long business days to obtain a two page letter filled with useless BS which redirected my concerns to a Canadian MB dealership of my choice.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

just found out today. Letter of compliance only available through a canadian dealership after they do a full 3 hour inspection (+ oil change). Cost of said inspection: CDN$1200 (not including anything else). Cost is preset by PCNA. Lets see how many things the dealer will find before they can give the compliance letter.

Wow! That sucks. I remember going through hoops bringing a car from Canada to the US when I moved out here. The key was that my VIN # had a non-US specific digit in it. As for importing into Canada. My understanding is the requirements are different for each province. Is it the province that wants the "compliance letter" or is it the the "Registrar of imported vehicles"? If it's the province...you may want to look around and get it registered in another province, then re-register it in your province. If it's the Registrar...I'm outta ideas :P. Good luck!

POST 3Original post

I brought my car in yesterday and I received the recall letter from Porsche by faxing them the bill of sale and the ownership at no cost. Mine was a private purchase rather than a dealer - maybe that was it....or, the dealer is pulling a fast one??

well they said this was started this week. I spoke to a girl at 1800 porsche for a while and she pretty much confirmed it all. Would suck to be a day late on this one. Cheers

POST 5Original post

In my opinion, the Canadian Dealers/distributors and the gov't appear to be colluding on this. It's been 2 or 3 years now, the RIV has become increasingly difficult to decipher, and nebulous on what is and is not eligible to be brought in. Prior to that time, the RIV chart was very clear, and did not refer you back to a manufacturer for admissibility concerns. What's the point of having a governmental agency in existence if they end up swinging us all back to the dealers/manufacturers for any information? Last year, I requested a letter of admissibility from Mercedes for a car that I saw in New England... It took 10 long business days to obtain a two page letter filled with useless BS which redirected my concerns to a Canadian MB dealership of my choice. SCAMMERS, all of them.

POST 6Original post

Dealers were probably ticked at how low prices for American cars have gotten. So low in fact that a Canadian wanting a Porsche would be foolish not to consider importing. Even this morning in the classified ads here in Montreal, people are selling 2001 for $48K, 1999 for $38K. Even with exchange rate you can save thousands buying in USA and with a much larger pool of cars to look at. Pete

POST 7Original post

I don't understand how I could get a Recall letter for free just two and half weeks ago and now it's $1,200. It took them one business day to send me a fax of the letter - not a whole lot of work it seems. And who cares how many 10+year old cars are imported. I couldn't find more than a handful of specialty dealers who had any 993's on hand anyway.
