Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Will this shift boot work with a 6 spd, or is it for a tip? I'd like the silver horseshoe...but don't want to spend several hundred dollars for it... TIA

POST 4Original post

I have a 99 Silver Carrera that has this boot. There is some delamination of the silver on this silver collar - would like to replace it with a new boot. Is this replacement easy to do? I really cannot tell how the boot is attached and it fits so tightly around my carbon fiber shifter ****. Any suggestions?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This boot is avail at www.stuttgartperformance.com, its like $95 (ALOT cheaper than the 350 or so that they charge for a new shift **** and boot). Not sure how it attaches tho. Like you said, how does it fit so tightly around the shift ****? You can call them and see if they can fax you installation instruction before you buy it....

POST 6Original post

Like most things on our expensive cars it is very easy to change. Take the shifter plus boot off the central tunnell by prying it up from the back forwards. It is held on by the usual plastic clips (I think there are 4 of them). Use an old credit card or butter knife to pry it off. Turn the boot inside out and you will see a screw holding the shifter against the gear rod. unscrew the shift **** screw using the appropriate allen key (i cant recall the size) and slide off the shifter plus boot (still inside out). You will see that there are 2 cable ties holding the boot and shifter together. Cut these off and the 2 pieces will then come apart. Attach your new boot onto the shifter using the same technique but with new cable ties (small). Viola!!
