Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I use it on my motorcycle and it works great. No more slow starts or dead batteries. I don't drive my 996 much, so I thought it may be a good idea. I know porsche has a cigarette lighter thing, but I'm sure the battery tender is a better product. Even though I keep the car in the garage, I don't like the idea of leaving the door or window open. It's really humid where I live.

POST 2Original post

I used a Sears maintainer for a while with my '02. I got tired of leaving the hood (trunk) lid up and removing the light bulb, or letting it burn for 2 hours. Those battery clips do not fit on the battery with a closed lid. I bought the P-maintainer for the cigarette lighter. It works fine. The wire fits under the closed door. You don't have to leave anything open at all.

POST 3Original post

I use Battery Tenders for my 996S and MH900 but use the Porsche battery maintainer for my p-car. Although more expensive, go witht he Porsche maintainer...the cigarette adapter is much more convenient but I had no other choice with the bikes.

POST 4Original post

Another vote in favor of the Porsche battery maintainer. Works great all winter in my cars. Wire under the door so there are no security issues.

POST 5Original post

I have the BMW model and it works great on the P-car, BMW, truck or the Harley...though I no longer have the Harley. No issues with the plug into the lighter.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just picked one up today. $70 at the dealer. Looks like that wire is plenty skinny to get under the door. Thanks for the advice.

POST 7Original post

... and there's also a notch on the weather strip on the driver side.

POST 9Original post

There's a semi-circle cut on the bottom rubber weatherstrip 1/3 length from the edge, on the driver's side. You just carefully align the wire w/ that notch when you shut the door.
