Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
In my opinon its too soft for my DE, but I use it because I use the car daily and X74 would be too low for my driveway and many others.
Leading evidence: 'Use car daily and x74 would be too low' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Use car daily and x74 would be too low' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm looking to by myself a present (again): one mod for my 04 C-2 cab. It's already got 18s and premium bose sound, but that's all. I realize that this is a personal preference issue, but what is the ONE modification that you guys like/love and would add assuming that you could only add one (I don't want top spend more than a couple of grand).
I'm thinking side skirts.
Thanks.
Gary
This post could get outta control...but I'll play. PSE should be the first mod. But, there are many mods that you can do yourself that are inexpensive (search the forum). I just did PSE after doing skirts, GT3 spoiler, trim extras, misc hacks, etc., etc., and realized why rennlisters keep saying PSE. I can't belieive I didn't do it sooner. Get one, and you will never listen to the radio again!
I saw from your note that your 911 is a weekend car (like mine). Now it depends on how you drive it on the weekend. If you just go out cruising, then go for the PSE. However, if you like to go out and push it a little, go for the X74 suspension. It improves the handling of the car immensely. But if you are just cruising, the PSE sounds great. Whatever you do, squeeze in an additional $200 and get the B&M short shifter. I think it is the best $200 you can spend on the car.
DaveMo: WHat is the difference between RoW M030 and X-74? Are they the same thing just called 2 different names?
My vote is PSE first and foremost followed by suspension upgrade.
The X74 is a little stiffer than the M030. The general consensus is that it falls in between the M030 and the (adjustable) PSS9's. In addition, the M030 is listed as lowering 20MM front/10MM rear; the X74 is 40/30.
Wow, lots of responses.
This is great. A few follow up [rookie] questions:
1. How much does PSE cost? Also, it's strictly sound, correct? That is, it's not a performance enhancement, is it?
2. ROW M030-- is this a Porsche mod (i.e., through dealership) or do I need to go elsewhere? If elsewhere, where to go? Cost? I don't track the car, but I do drive hard on the long, winding roads in my neck of the woods-- is the suspension upgrade overkill for a non-track guy?
3. The short shifter-- what's the benefit? Also, where do you get it?
Thanks.
Gary
Short shifter(B&M-huge difference in feel-slickity slick precision shifts : )), aftermarket exhaust(PSE/Fabs etc.)/suspension. I think best mod for the money is drive the car at the track before any mods such as DE's(driver events) that way known what tweeks you like to get : ). Makes a better driver out of you then most any mods out there : ). Regards. Mike
Sorry to hijack the thread but does anyone know if they make X74 for 2001 C2?
The PSE should cost around $1600 with another $200 to install (always open, no electronics). The B&M shortshifter will be around $250 with another $200 to install (or do it yourself). The ROW M030 should be around $1200 with another $600 or so to install (I think).
Chicago996 - Check out the carnewal.com site. It doesn't look like there is an X74 for an '01. But send a note to Gert. ([email removed]) He is extremely helpful and quick to respond - Just remember the time difference to Europe.
With regard to the B&M, Brandywine Porsche was selling them for $199 + 7.50 shipping. Very easy mod to install yourself - Save the $200.
if doing just one mod to an '04, i'd add the x74 suspension. the exhaust note on an '04 is pretty good straight from the box, i don't think i would touch it.
The ROW M030 is not stiff at all. In my opinon its too soft for my DE, but I use it because I use the car daily and X74 would be too low for my driveway and many others. i think its a great upgrade because the stock set up is unsports car like. To me it feels like a Mercedes. PSE is about $1600 for the parts. The M030 is about $1200. Short shifter can be found at any Porsche part seller like Performance Products its about $250. I have GHL and they have a great deal for $679. To me the sound is not as loud as the PSE, yet still sporty and the $900 saved could get you the M030. Brain at GHL is have great service and easy to deal with. The short shifter reduce throw about 30%. Some say it makes shifting a little stiffer, I think the 996 throw is not that long and don't want to increase the stiffness. But what do I know I'm use to driving old 911s with really long throws.
Hey, Rich!
I agree but if he's going to track the car, he'll be burning through tires like an Atkins reject at the Pringles factory. There will always be a need to get new rubber, but an opportunity to get new springs and dampers might not be as easy to justify.
Did you go to Rennsport?
Skip Barber or Russell Racing school. IMHO, it'll be the best bang for the buck, because you'll be extracting as much performance as that car can give.
Plus, when you do more modifications, and you will, you can put that money into the car wisely, not that modifying the car is a wise decision by any means. It's a slippery slope.
