Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

All the same connectors which worked for the original Porsche unit are connected, including the CD changer which I just installed (and which worked for the Porsche head unit).
Leading evidence: 'Install (and' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install (and' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Took the Traffic Pro out, replaced with the Porsche unit and all works, so no blown fuses etc..???

Is there some coding or setting I need to set to get it to recognize the amp and bypass it's speaker outs?
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi..where are the infamous two screws that I need to undo to get the warning light cover off of the dash top? Looks like a "snap on" or something like that, unless they are underneath. I can't even SEE it from under the dash??
Also, to hook up the reverse wire, can I take it to the fuse terminal? Which dide of the fuse do I splice in to?
Thanks
Try here for instructions
Traffic Pro Installation Instructions
The instructions are for a Boxster, but are identical for a 996.
The 2 torx screws are under the center cover on the dash between the defroster ducts. These screws are removed from the top, but you must pry up the defroster duct covers a little bit to get the antenna mounting plate out. A good way to see the screws is to look down through the windshield.
The reverse signal lead goes to a pigtail under the drivers seat next to the control box. The instructions show where it is. You have to remove the seat to get at this pigtail. the seat is held in with Torx bolts which you will need "E" type sockets to remove.
Thanks Orient..actually I just answered one of my own questions...I fiddled around with the dash cover gently w/ a screwdriver and it popped off! Very easy..no torx screws. Not like the Germans to just have something "pop off" but I guess mine was an anomoly.
But I guess the reverse lead will be the project that the antenna wasn't. Thanks much!
Seal2CC:
Under that cover is the plate that is held on with the 2 Trox screws. You will have to remove that to be able to thread the antenna cable down to the radio. To get the plate out you will need to pry up the defroster covers a bit next to the plate.
FYI: Put some masking tape over the defroster ducts, so that when you drop one of the screws it will not drop down into the air conditioner.
Thanks AGAIN Orient..I see it now.
Well I have the unit all hooked up and it is receiving FM stations and naming their callsigns etc, but there is NO SOUND. I have the HI FI option with the aux amplifier so the speaker outs are not used on the Traffic Pro. All the same connectors which worked for the original Porsche unit are connected, including the CD changer which I just installed (and which worked for the Porsche head unit). Took the Traffic Pro out, replaced with the Porsche unit and all works, so no blown fuses etc..??? Not "plug and play" like other's experiences seem to be.
Guess that's another dilemma to solve. Is there some coding or setting I need to set to get it to recognize the amp and bypass it's speaker outs?
Thanks!
did you plug back in the top connector that has 3 colors Blue, green, and yellow I believe. The one that is inboard on that connector stack is the one that signals the amp to come on.
The Traffic Pro pin outs are exactly the same as a CDR-220. Are you sure that the traffic pro works?
did you attach the ground wire?
that is all I can think of.

Yes all 3 "top" connectors are plugged in, the radio powers up, plays CDs from the changer and is seeking GPS birds so I guess it "works" except for the amp/audio. I didn't attach a ground wire...just "plugged and played" as if it were the old Porsche unit - except hooked up the GPs antenna..
Guess I'll call the TP hotline tomorrow.
Had exactly the same problem. LOL. The power supply for the traffic pro comes from a different source.
Look up my thread with Tool pants on
www.renntech.org.
Its fairly easy to sort out the problem! What you did to install it is the difficult part.
Well hot dog! That was the problem and an easy fix splicing a wire from C-6 to A-5.
I had to go back and remove the antenna cover, saw the torx screws and took 'em out; put in the GPS and also an XM satellite radio antenna to boot. Sits just to the right of the cover, under my inspection sticker; nice and pretty stock looking.
Thanks for the great tip and link to the tech site. Everything hunky dory now
