Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Use ?)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Run smoothly' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Sweet!
1. What happened to your original engine? RMS?
2. If you don't mind, how much did it cost?
3. Also, what is "balanced"? Aren't they all balanced from factory?
4. I thought blue printing was significant only in older engines, specially engines with carburators.
5. Are there any chassis mods for the engine to fit?
6.With 3 and 4, you still end up with 355 hp, right?
I forgot 3 more:
7. What is ported?
8. Is the polishing you mention internal? - that would be blue printing.
9. 5 year warranty?
ok I will stop now
(no promises)
THANKS FOR THE REPLIES
Jd 1. My motor was in poor shape, the RMS had sufferrred almost a complete failure.
2. Its starting to cost a lot of money. so far approx. 13000, and a long ways to go
3-8. The motor was sent to Competition Automotive who performed a once over, exact extent of work performed is a bit of a mystery as I was not able to receive a spec sheet. All stock internals but somewhat massaged. End result is supposed to yield a min of 20hp.
9. Once the motor was openned, the 2yr warranty was lost with it.
Jd, as far as chassis mods-none. Other diffs are starting to come to light as progress cont.
Paul, Unfortunately no one close by with lots of exp., its in my shop. Everyone should perform heart surgery on a porsche at least once in there Lifetime! What did you end up going with?
Ed,
I ended up going with a 3.6 that already had the x51 package. A bit of a better fit in the 99 996 as opposed to going to the 3.8. Your c4s to 3.8 should be simpler as all the correct electronics are present.
Thanks for replying.
Very interesting!
I had 2 RMS, but now my 02 C4S is fine, just turned 60,000 Km.
How many Kms when you got your RMS? Was it the first one?
Sorry for all the questions, but I find your project fascinating,
and I would love to know the details of what happened, that led you
in this direction.
John
Awesome project! Wish I would of opened this thread earlier.
Let us know what items or components are needed to make the swap if you can, I am very curious.
Balanced and Blueprinted; that motor should last forever at high RPM.
You say ported. Was it hand ported or something like Extrudehone?
Finally had my 996 up on 4 jackstands for a long look and brake job, and with your pics I can see how the mount drops down after removing the bumper cover.
Yours is awesome!
I know this thread is more than 2 years old... but I'm dying to know how this worked out!! =) Electronics run smoothly? No systems non-functioning? Would love to know the results!
