This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Do any of you know the correct way to identify a bad wheel bearing and how to replace it.

POST 2Original post

A few ways to identify a bad wheel bearing is by sound... a wheel bearing will sound like a whirring/rumbling noise (kinda like a truck with big mud tires). If you weave the car left and right the noise will change as you load and unload the bearing. If the noise reamins constant it's not a bearing. Also you can see if the wheel moves back and forth by grabbing the tire at 10 & 2 and try to move the wheel back and forth. It shouldn't move. If you get some play (i.e. the wheel moves back and forth) then it's a bad bearing. Also bearings can fail if they've been torqued down too much. I've seen it happen more times than I can remember. Follow the proper torque spec when replacing them. It's also a good rule of thumb to replace both fronts at the same time. Typically if one is failing or has failed, the other can't be far behind. As far as replacing one, I would assume it's no different than any other wheel bearing. They require a press to get them in and out.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the reply Nick. I had a left front bearing failed and replaced under warranty last year. I could hear the whirring/rumbling noise sound while turning at that time. I now hear the same sound even while driving in a straight line and the sound does not change while turning. I'm hoping that this is just tire noise.
