the first owner of my car damaged his oil pan, so the dealer serviced the car and installed the shield, has been on there ever since, I find it helps a lot on our rough pothole strewn streets and in the winter through the ice formed ruts.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

They make a big difference
Noticed right away
More planted rear feel under load in corners
You can feel the suspension really working in the rear, camber changes, etc
Great upgrade
I actually did it more for the adjustability as I was prematurely wearing out rear tires
It's a nice quality piece
Went on relatively easy
The bolt holding the heat shield to the engine was a bit fiddly
I like how easy it is to remove and clean the filters
I had the cold air intake hose before and the Orange cap, that made a deeper induction noise
Really spruced up the engine bay
It makes a nice noise under load though my exhaust drowns it out
Hard to tell power improvements as I fitted it together with the exhaust
I definitely feel more punch but most of that is from the exhaust
How did you go about the interior painting of the center console etc? Did you do it yourself? I want to do this but am a bit nervous with the idea of sanding the console down and putting on many layers...
"Went" not "any"
Damn iPhone
Suspension installed just setting height and letting settle prior to alignment
Will take pics this weekend
Excited to try it out
Had a bit of a mechanical issue
Pressure plate failure
Started out I noticed a slight vibration in the clutch pedal the next day started slipping
Pulled it apart and found half the pressure plate fingers had collapsed due to a break in the structure
Ended up damaging the flywheel as pressure was being applied unequally
At least RMS and IMS look good
Still original IMS with 102500km
Decided to put in new RMS and LN IMS
Also doing new flywheel clutch AOS plugs fluids driveshaft guibo tranny mounts
might as well while I'm in there
It's really too bad the the DMFW can't be re-surfaced cheaply. When I had my LN IMS/clutch job done I almost went with a Aasco LWFW but my track/street Audi has one and I thought it might better serve me to have a more daily friendly clutch such as the oem one. Glad I did.
Did you buy a good condition used or new FW ?
Picked up some hollow spoke Turbo Twists, looking forward to spring to try them out and to see if I can feel the weight reduction from the stock C4S Twists
Will need some tires as well
Pete you can feel a slight difference in acceleration with the hollow spokes, the solids are quite heavy. Problem is mounting heavy r comps... I have both and experimented with all types of road and track tires on each set. I found mine on craigslist for $500 about 5 years ago. Did you get a good deal?
Turbo hollow spokes are on, ended up having to get yet another set of new rears, yearly occurrence now, getting about 12000km out of a set of rears

EBC red brakes pads and new Zimmerman discs also coming
and the usual culprits - oil service, transmission fluid service, diff fluid service, plugs, coolant, new wiper blades, etc
EBC RED pads, new discs, and stainless lines are on, definitely feel an improvement in braking and brake pedal feel

12000 km = 7500 miles! Why are you only getting that low miles out of them? Are you running them until the "wear bars"? Is it aggressive driving, track driving?
That's pretty normal for a 220 tread wear rating tire,
I'm not sure the PS2s are supposed to last much longer than that, no track driving, just daily driving
I guess I could be wrong, what should I be getting on the rears?
Your car is way cooler than mine.... nice build. You have everything I wanted to do when I bought mine however maintenance bills keep getting in the way of modding
*Getting married last month didn't help either
With one weekend of driving schools, I got 23k miles from mine. Of course, I literally took it down to the wear bars where I would need to get new tires to drive them legally on the road. Sounds like you may have an alignment issue where you're "scrubbing"? I.e. - your rears are towed in too much?
Nope
Alignment is all good, align every spring and ensure its for better wear not aggressive performance
Very even wear across tire on last two sets of rears
I run them to the top of the wear bars typically
Pretty common wear for these if you check places like tire rack and 1010tires in the review section
Even Michelin only warrantys 10-15k km on these
Rears
Staggered set up
Rear biased weight
Performance tire and car
Equals rear tire wear
Nice car, nice thread! How do you feel about the Ohlins after a fair amount of time on them? Most reviews here only have a few weeks perspective. What kind of driving you subject them to would be helpful to know as well.
Also, Ohlins recommended ride height looked awfully low in your pic (well, looks good but also looks difficult to navigate ramps, driveways etc). Did you end up raising the car a little?
I ended up raising the car a bit, the Ohlins recommended install height was too low for my liking
Ride is great, very compliant, great feel and handling, I played with the shock settings a bit over the last months, ended up about 7 clicks form full soft for daily driving
When I set it to 5 clicks from the firmest setting it was quite stiff and I was getting the common issue of the spring binding a bit and generating a clinging sound when dry steering or initial steering input in the car
I drive the car every day, all year, all conditions. The coilovers really come into play the faster you go, I really like them
They ride better than the stock suspension, not much firmer, abosrb the undulations and road imperfections really well, allow me to really push the car through corners now, have a great planted feel. I also have the RSS dog bones and GT3 sway bars which helped a lot
some feedback on the brakes and transmission mount:
brakes are awesome, the EBC red pads really improved the bite and feel and stopping distance compared to stock, much more progressive pedal feel now as well, probably thanks to the stainless lines
The Yellow trans mounts definitely added some NVH but still acceptabe
get some vehicle vibration at idle or low rpm cruising speed, trade off is much more direct feeling shifts, can really appreciate the GT3RS short shifter now
So, I experienced the dreaded AOS failure
Pretty dramatic event I must say
For those who have not seen it in person I do not recommend it
Driving down highway I glanced in my rear view mirror and saw a humongous (and I mean big) plume of smoke pouring out of the back of my car, blocking the road and sky
Pulled car off road
*** end covered in dirty black oily bits
Tail pipes full of it
Couldn't get the oil full cap off, huge vacuum build up
No noise, no dash lights, oil pressure all good, water temp good, just catastrophic AOS failure
Had her fixed up as good as new
New AOS, oil change, bit of a cleaning
Reset OBC
On the road again and happy
Still a bit of stink coming out of exhaust but otherwise all good
Very scary experience I must say
She's at 135000km
Did plugs today, changed all coils
original ones were all corroded and cracked, number one had a big split in it, whenever it rained hard I'd get a misfire
Now they're all new
Also did tranny fluid change
Car is very happy now
So is owner driver
I'm getting ready to cross 50k miles, so I suspect I'll be changing plugs soon, too. Thankfully, I changed the coils a couple of years ago (no misfires, but pretty much all cracked). Car has run like a champ since then
Ouch
Bad parking lot driver
Backed Into me while I was driving past:

It sucks
She was perfect
Ill try to repost all the pics in a simpler fashion
Have more in store for her
I'm at 150 000 km now
Eagerly awaiting spring so the summers can go on and I can give her a full clean and detail
And then seek out some twisties
She's been amazing all winter I must say
And it's been very cold, tons of snow and ice
She's so spirited and easy to slide and control
Loves drifting
Pete, just curious--did you file a claim with the other driver's insurance for loss of value given that the car now has an accident on the record?
Keep the pics and updates coming!
Cut out and replaced whole rear quarter panel
New from Porsche

I've added Momos in all my previous cars, mostly BMWs, had the Monte Carlo, the Alpina 4 spokes 70s version...etc
Initial thoughts on Momo in the 996 C4S:
install is a bit more complex, needed to remove a few more pieces and take steering column covers off, but otherwise fairly straight forward
still need to source the resistor to get rid of air bag dummy light
small diameter makes for lively steering inputs, but slightly obscures visibility of gauge cluster, can feel the lightness of it, great hand feel as is usual for the Momos, nicer to throw the car around, great feedback through it
the Porsche silver emblem I found matches the exterior and interior trim
Had an early on set of winter
Got over a foot of snow on October 1 so wi rest had to go on, unfortunately found a little friend hiding in one tire from last spring

Seem to be experiencing a failure with the clutch pressure plate again
60k km since a clutch and flywheel and the pressure plate cracked again
I'm not racing or launching, just regular driving
Strange occurrence

Never thanked you for re-hosting all the pix, awesome car and love that your still at it. I'm on a very similar journey with a very similar car -- you remind me i need to journal the progress thus far.
Sorry to see the accident, but nice to see you fixing and carrying on.
Love the BMWs, clearly we have similar taste in cars, lol....

The skid plate in post #113 is a stock Porsche part. I have the same one on my 2002 (replacing it with a Bilt skid over the winter though, because Im going from a half quart to a two quart sump extension).
Interesting. I've asked the dealership about this but they werent aware one had ever been available. If your upgrading, would your old one possibly be for sale ?
Here is a link to the part (part number
99610798100)
:
https://www.suncoastparts.com/produc...YaAvTREALw_wcB
Yes, mine will eventually be for sale, when I get around to it, probably not for a couple of months though. Im expanding my garage, and theres no way to get the 2002 onto the lift for a while - plus the 2000 has the transmission out and is taking up space on the lift.
the first owner of my car damaged his oil pan, so the dealer serviced the car and installed the shield, has been on there ever since, I find it helps a lot on our rough pothole strewn streets and in the winter through the ice formed ruts. It is a bit of a pain when doing an oil change as the oil tends to splash all over the inside of the shield, usually I just wipe it off and every second oil change remove it and properly clean it.
Another common malady happened
I think Ive had them all now
The shifter cable malfunction, disconnecting from transmission
Quick fix on the road repair with some zip ties
Time for new cables, a job for this weekend
At least spring has sprung
photo187.jpg
zip ties were just to get me home, breakdown happened at my office, on a major thoroughfare during rush hour traffic, needed to limp home so i could fix it for good, new cables came in today, will install and add back up measures to ensure it doesnt happen again, the car does have 165 000km on it, original shift cables
back to e30s for a bit, i managed to make the little red beauty mine, the fun will soon begin, building another Alpina look alike i think, still have many original parts, it'll be a period correct tuned little rocket
for now shes a little time machine, all original 1990 325is, in mint shape
Fun car! I had an E30 325 - wanted a M3, but took what I could get. I spent way too much of my limited income back then with Bavarian Autosport and Turners. Bilsteins, H&R springs and a Dinan chip made it even better. Enjoy!
Your BMW brings back fond memories. My wife and I bought one exactly like yours even the same color, brand new. The car was really hers and she drove the heck out of it. Just an FYI the front lower lip on yours does not look original, it should be larger and same as body color. Found this pic on Google. Have fun with it.
Yup
It's not the correct iS lip
I have that sitting ready to be put on
This is a regular lip
Then again I might go and source the Alpina cow catcher type 162 spoiler
That looks the best
Don't worry, I'm a bit of an e30 nerd
This is probably the 20th e30 in the family and my 3rd
Spring service on the C4S and came across a few of the common maladies
Age related
Cleared a few CEL codes, cleaned and adjusted suspension, found a cracked oil filler tube and a coolant line fitting, cleaned MAF and throttle body, new O2 sensors
