Checked the oil (thanks I'd never think to do that, what a great idea.) and that a part would take two weeks to come in and the car was fine to drive around until then.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looks like I'll be joining the ever-growing club of RMS. My '02 with 9K miles is the latest victim. I backed out of the garage the other night and noticed that nasty little brown spot under the engine. I drove it straight to the dealers with a note "possible RMS leak" and sure enough by 9:00 the next morning they reiterated it. They seemed pretty nonchalant about it. Said they cleaned up the area. Checked the oil (thanks I'd never think to do that, what a great idea.) and that a part would take two weeks to come in and the car was fine to drive around until then. Maybe I'm just being a little nervous Nelly about the whole thing, but they didn't seem all that concerned. Luckily I've got the Porsche certified 100K warranty. Anyway, here's to the first and hopefully only RMS repair that I'll need. I'll be sure to ask if the car is within tolerance, but is there anything else I need to do? Thanks

POST 2Original post

You can still drive around with the car until the parts arrive, its not a big deal. Make sure they not only check that the crankshaft bore is concentric within tolerance with the special tool they have for it, but also that they change the RMS AND the intermediate shaft seal too while they are at it. Both seals need to be replaced. Oh, and... welcome to the club

POST 3Original post

I have an RMS "seapage." No oil leak per say. I park the car on a carpet and have never had a single drop of oil lost. Some mechanics say I need to replace it, some say don't bother until it actually leaks since some moisture is almost not uncommon, so even if I fix the RMS now then a bonafide oil leak is just as likely eventually anyway. I have my 30k service coming up and was thinking of taking care of it then. Opinions??? It's a '99 no longer under warranty. Also, some recommended changing the clutch since all the labor will already be done. The car has 28k miles on it... ??

POST 4Original post

Was the spot dead center? Or, off to the right? I have a small one off to the right. It may be the oil pressure sender or valve cover.
