If you lower it the rear tires will wear quickly on the inside, my car had lowering springs when I bought it, I had them replaced with sport springs.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

WWWWOOOOOWWWW!!! Holy Catsh!t Batman...whatta car!!! Sorry guys, but I just got back from my initial drive, in my new car, and just had to get that out!! Okay, let's back up....Hi, my name is Dana and I just purchased a 2003 996 C4S. It's the hard-to-find Artic Silver with black leather. It also has the painted center console and seat backs. It's a tiptronic and has 39,900 miles and I'm the 3rd owner (1st was a lease and 2nd a PCA member). Pretty much stock, but does have the 19" Champion RG5B's. It's truly clean, with only a blemish or two on the exterior, and the interior is flawless. No surprizes, yet...hope that remains. I know you guys like pics, so here's one of the car being delivered... 181 - Copy.jpg Just a little history....I've owned a few Porsches, but it's been awhile. I was a PCA member back in the '80's. Got out of it for awhile (family/kids) and the itch came back in the early '90's and I bought my 2nd 928. Got involved in that community a good bit, but eventually sold the car and have been Porsche-less for about 8-9 years. I was on the old Porschefans/Porschelist, that eventually became Rennlist (still get the 928 digest) and I've been stalking you guys for a couple of months, as I began my search, for what I knew would be a new water-cooled 911. So, I've got my membership now and I'm sure the questions will be forthcoming, as get to know my new baby! Here's some more pics...the weather here has been terrible, but these photos are from the previous owner, and only about 1 yr. old. Copy of Carrera%204S%201.jpg Copy of Carrera%204S%203.jpg Copy of Carrera%204S%204.jpg Copy of Carrera%204S%205.jpg Copy of Carrera%204S%206.jpg Copy of Carrera%204S%207.jpg I know the "mod" list will begin now, so have at it!!! I will get the bumper plugs and probably have the rear bumperettes painted, initially. Thinking that rear "S" might look good in red. Where do you get those? Lowering it is something I'd to to do, but after reading 4,582 posts on the subject, I'm as confused as ever on the right/smart way to go. Oh, maybe a Navigavition/stereo thingy, too! That's it for now...........please go easy on the new guy!

POST 2Original post

Congrats! Love those wheels (and your comment about the color combo).

POST 3Original post

Beautiful car - use it well. Love the wheels and color also. The tip we can discuss

Great looking car,and the wheels are awsome. If you lower it the rear tires will wear quickly on the inside, my car had lowering springs when I bought it, I had them replaced with sport springs. Halvin

congrats!.... love Arctic silver! So beautiful!.... PSS9/10 is my suggestion.

POST 9Original post

Beautiful P-car. Welcome back to Rennlist and Porsche ownership.

POST 10Original post

Nice car! Welcome! There's some good advice in here for mods. Don't listen to Phil G - he only drives his C4S 4 miles each year (hi Phil!)

POST 11Original post

Congrats on getting the C4S! And thanks for posting the pics! It's a good thing you did, because "some" here would have given you a really hard time about that! Mods???.... did someone say mods? You already mentioned Bumper Plugs but make sure you also get the Key Plug. You can also get the red "S" from Eric at BumperPlugs.com. Tell him Tim referred you. You dash is crying for some Aluminum Gauge Rings to break up all that black. Aluminum Pedals would also look good. Again Congrats and Welcome to Rennlist!

POST 12Original post

Yeah, and all four of those miles are up and down his driveway!

POST 13Original post

Congrats! Great looking car, and I love the choice of a C4S!

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Tim, I posted the pics so I wouldn't get that initial thrashing, by you!! I agree on the Gauge rings...forgot to mention it. A couple of key accents on the interior will bring it out nicely. The painted console and seat backs are killer in this color combo. Thanks for the lead on the red "S", also. On to the aluminum pedals....any guys have 'em? How do they feel? Issues? Brand? Is it a simple install...reversible? Thanks everyone, for the warm welcome....D

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey Phil, thanks for the welcome. About the Tiptronic....the only real reason I got one, was because that 's what I wanted ! :-) *Sorry, couldn't find the fancy smiley face?

POST 16Original post

Love the tip personally. And, to be fair, I have heard Phil has a very long driveway with lots of curves.

POST 17Original post

Welcome back! Best of luck with the new ride!

POST 18Original post

Welcome Dana! I know you will enjoy the C4S, and the Tiptronic. Don't be discouraged by those stick-shifting machos, I have a Tip as well.

Welcome- beautiful car and sounds like you did your homework.. glad to hear it is worth the wair awe... those AREN'T curves, those are wet spots from were he washed it last and they "shade" the drive to give the appearance of curves

POST 22Original post

Nice 4S...welcome!! What size tires do you have in the rear?

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 6575248

Damn, I guess you were lurking for a while! Aluminum pedals are reversible. They are not really difficult to install, the lack of much room down there makes it more challenging. Here is a thread started by a relatively new Rennlist Sponsor. All of the info you need is in the thread. SRP Pedals

Doesnt that put you pretty close to No Problem Raceway?? Welcome to the fold... the C4S is wonderful car to drive, and not too shabby to look at either. Love the wheels and the small interior tweaks - like the V1 remote above the Tip lever. Enjoy in good health! ~J

Congrats on the new ride and welcome aboard (back???) Rudy

But those are quality miles!! My driveway is cracked from putting so many miles on it - gotta have it resealed this Spring. I just said we could "discuss" it - I'm a manual guy with all my cars. Each to his own taste when it comes to your own car. Just enjoy it!!!

They're 315/25ZR-19. Current tires are the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's. I was going thru the receipts and noticed that the cost for these tires were $548 ea. (at Discount Tire!). So, I guess I can officially put the car back up for sale, now!!! Ouch They only have about 50-60% left, I'll be a hittin' the tire threads!!

Hey Michael, know the area all too well. My sister went to USL and still lives in the area (Carencro). Short story - Remember the Giles Porsche dealership? I was buying a MB 450SL from my brother-in-law, and we were riding around and spotted a black 928on the "drive-up" showcase ramp in front of the dealership. We pulled in and I was admiring it....about 3 weeks later, he and sis show up at a family function in that car!!! That eventually became my 4th Porsche and my first 928. It was an '82 model (....with a 5-speed, Phil ). I think I got it in'88? BTW, back then did everyone in Lafayette own a BMW!!!! They were everywhere!

Thanks Cosmo,.....and Chris...and you other tipsters. Any of you want give some "tips" on using it to it's full potential? Hints/tricks/do's & don't/etc. .....or it just a trial and error thing? I don't want some smart@ss in a souped-up Nova to show me up, 'cause I was ill-prepared!!!

POST 36Original post

Congrat, the car looks great. Somehow those wheels really make the whole car pop. (Let me know if you decide to sell them, ha.) The suspension looks good for stock, already pretty tight. Enjoy!

POST 38Original post

Another Silver/Black Tiptronic 4S here! I love the tip, especially in traffic. Oh, don't try to shift into neutral and rev the engine while the car is moving, I've heard that's bad....

POST 39Original post

Great find. I love the wheels too. Enjoy her. Most starting mods appear to be done already... That leaves you with more $ for the pricey ones.

POST 40Original post

Quotes source post: 6578357

Too cool, both my brothers and both my sisters went to USL too! Unfortunately, we moved in my senior year of HS. Oh man, it's been a long time, the only Giles dealership I remember is Giles Nissan. Laissez bon temp roulez!!! ///Michael

POST 42 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 6578404

You may not want them. Seems the tire choices are very slim for the size needed. I recall the PO telling me he put the 315's on, because he couldn't locate 305's. The rear wheel is 11.5 wide. Is there a reason this size is somewhat limited to choices/availability?

POST 43Original post

Nice car and really nice wheels. However, the tip is altogether another matter, the important thing is that you enjoy the car. Congrads.

POST 45Original post

Welcome aboard and to the Big Butt club. it is a great car. i would recommend the short shifter kit (with transmission spacers) then get some drivers ed time in. I have my car 8 weeks, and 2 days at watkins glen really showed me whtat it is made of. brakes stop on a dime and give you change and there gets to be here quickly over 5500 rpm. cant do that on the street finally, once you get used to it, a set of PSS10s should be in your future. stock suspension moves around too much (try a few on/off ramp cloverleaves will show you fast. but a great car, and best of luck!!!! ROY

POST 46Original post

Quotes source post: 6605049

Thanks for the advice, I have had the car awhile but it was winter and didnt drive it much. This is a fast car and it does handle well, but it would be nice to really put it to the test on the track and have more fun. Thanks again Halvin

POST 47Original post

Hey I have to say that's a sharp looking 996. And yes that's coming from a 997S owner. Love the style with the tinted windows, especially the wheels. She's a looker. Keep her fresh and enjoy the drive. Welcome to the mistique of 911 ownership. Jay
