They outsource the mufflers to a shop in town who opens them up and changes the baffles.

Suggestion

However, I have since observed that the GHL's sound changes to considerably deeper tones once they warm up, so the initial sound I heard on the mod/stock might have also changed when warm.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My dealer has an aftermarket parts salesman. That's all he does is talk people into spending gobs of money on thier toys. What a cool job. Anyway, I talked to him a little about the PSE exhaust. He suggested another option. They retain the stock mufflers when they install aftermarket ones at the dealer. They outsource the mufflers to a shop in town who opens them up and changes the baffles. You can pick how you want the mufflers sound and how loud they'll be. I asked about duplicating the PSE and he says it's entirely possible. He said it'll cost about $500 including installation. That's a bargain compared to most aftermarket stuff. What do you think?

POST 2Original post

I heard a dealer modified stock muffler on a new 2003 demo. We sat in the parking lot and revved a barely warm motor. It was louder than stock, raspy, but a little too thin sounding for my tastes compared with PSE or GHL. However, I have since observed that the GHL's sound changes to considerably deeper tones once they warm up, so the initial sound I heard on the mod/stock might have also changed when warm. For slightly more $$ you can buy GHL and keep the stock mufflers if you should ever decide to go unnoticed through life. I love my GHL's, my kids love my GHL's, my 85 year old Mom thinks my car is too loud.

POST 3Original post

Webtool.. I think you just laid down the straw that broke the camel's back... Mind if I ask what the total costs were to get them to Toronto (including taxes, brokerage and whatever else Canada Customs charges)?

POST 4Original post

Mighty: Who keeps cost records of anything for your boat/plane/sportscars? GHL has the special posted. The shipping is free (once you join the priveledged ranks here at Rennlist) ,you have your 7% GST, no duty and a small UPS brokerage fee, plus a minor exchange rate issue - but forget all that. Once you hear your baby snarl up like a Merlin-on-a-mission, the cost is quickly dimissed with vague shrugs and helpless grinning.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I posted over at six speed. There were a couple people who did it over there and really liked it.

POST 6Original post

Can't beat the GHL exhaust! I love mine. The exhaust note is soooo much better now that I have about 2k miles on it. I love the exhaust "rasp" when the car is cold and hasn't warmed up!

POST 7Original post

I have had a modified stock muffler. The stock muffler has a pipe going into a chamber and then another pipe that is not connected to the inlet, that goes out. The modified on has the 2 pipes welded together so its like a staright thru pipe, very loud. The other kind is to get a perforated pipe welded between the inlet and outlet pipes. This one is a litle quiter. Straight thru pipe made the most power.

POST 8Original post

$500 buy the GHL its just a little more and you can still have your stock ones in case you hate it. If you modify it then you can't ever go back. I don't trust cutting a muffler then putting it back together. To me it will never be the same.
