Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just purchased an 01 996 Coupe that doesn't have the manuals and the radio needs a code to get operational. The dealer has been trying to get the books from the previous owner but apparently to no avail. How do I get the radio to work? Thank you!

POST 2Original post

The dealer should be able to get the codes from Porsche North America.

POST 3Original post

Your dealer may have to pull the radio out and get its serial number. Once they have this they can get the radio code from Porsche NA.

POST 4Original post

All you should need is the VIN. Same scenario happened to me. Make sure you write down the code in case you ever disconnect your battery or anything because you will need it again.

POST 5Original post

Call your dealer they can probably give you the number. You should call them from the car so you can carry the proceedure out over the phone. You don't need to remove the radio, there is a sequence of buttons to push to get the serial number. Why buy a car without books?

POST 6Original post

Yeah, no need to pull out the radio. The Dealer can get the serial code off the display, then they have a phone number that they call that gives them the code.

POST 7Original post

As my radio had been replaced and the VIN code wasn't enough, so I had to take it to the dealership. I didn't realize they could get the serial without pulling the unit, how do you make it display the serial? Either way it's not a big deal and this is very simple for the dealership to retrieve the correct code. -Keith

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was hoping the activation code was recorded somewhere in the owners manual. I since have spoken to a porsche dealer and they tell me the entire procedure can be done over the phone with me sitting in the car. Someone asked earlier why I didn't get the manual when I bought the car. The reason is because I was told the owner still had it and would drop it off in the next day or so. The owner was out of town and will be dropping off the manual on Friday hopefully. I am impatient Thanks to everyone for their input. Can anyone tell me how to get the number off the radio through a button sequence? This is what the dealer would do I suppose.

POST 9Original post

Yes, the entire thing can be done in less than 5 minutes with the dealer on the phone and you sitting in the car. I had the exact same thing done when I replaced my battery but had misplaced my radio manual with the code in it. The dealer instructed me on the sequence of buttons to push on the unit to obtain the serial number, then gave me the corresponding code from Porsche. Quite simple.

POST 10Original post

The code is not in the manual but on a little card that comes will all the books for the car and the radio that you get when the car is delivered new. So you should hope that the prior owner still has that card.
