Read evidence and context

Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

3 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi. I have a 99 Cab and I need some help with a part that mounts underneath the clamshell. On the underside of the clamshell between the two hinge points is a plastic assembly that looks like a little wing. I was lowering the top and stopped halfway to make sure the plastic window was folding properly and I noticed that this little assembly had dislodged. I removed it, figure out how it was supposed to go together then re-installed it. The next time I cycled the top I heard a clunk and it had dislodged itself again so I just removed it. Top seems to work well without it there and I can't figure out what it does. Can anybody fill me in on what this thing is supposed to do? Thoughts and comments would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Scott

POST 2Original post

I just recently worked on my top. I remember the piece, but unsure what it does. Is it possible it's for water? Cuz the top and the clamshell can't be a 100% water tight seal.

POST 3Original post

it's just a cover for the hole on both sides when the top is down. make it look like the whole back is well integrated. of course i'm talking from my experience from an 02 cabriolet. its a very flimsy cover that always get messed up.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
