POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I moved down here from LA and will be getting my car back today, hopefully, been delayed day after day for two weeks! I would like to know if anyone here lives around sd, and knows of any canyons etc. I am used to having the malibu race track within a drive, so I need to find something to help me "relax". Thanks, also if there are others that want to cruize on a weekend through the canyons to show me the line, that would be cool too.

POST 2Original post

SPR: Check out this link. http://www.pashnit.com/motoroads.htm There are some nice drives in there. Peter

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

cool I actually link but just wanted to sort out what was best and maybe less cop and or dumb kid driving out of scope of ability, infested!

POST 4Original post

SPR, try the 94 in East County (Campo Rd.) the CA 78 CA 79 toward Julian and the S2. I'll get some maps for you. And do you have the new facelift and headlights in your car?

POST 6Original post

Ok I hope you are ready 94 (Campo Rd.) to Lyons Valley Rd. Lyons Valley Rd. to Japatul Valley Rd. Across Hwy 8 Japatul Valley Rd. becomes CA 79 Follow to the City of Julian were CA 79 becoms CA 78 Turn Right to Yaqui Pass Rd. / S3 follow until the City of Borrego Springs Left onto Borrego Springs Rd. That ends at a round about Rest - Believe Me Follow the round about to Palm Canyon Rd. Left on Montezuma Borrego Hwy That becomes Montezuma Valley Rd. Right on San Felipe Rd. / S2 San Felipe Rd. ends at CA 79 Turn Left toward Santa Ysabel TWO ROUTES POSSIBLE Right on Mesa Grande Rd. - A $hit load of Turns Mesa Grande connects back onto CA 79 before Santa Ysabel Make a Right OR Follow CA 79 until Santa Ysabel The Julian Pie Company is on the Right Stop by and get a drink and Rest Then Right on CA 78 toward Ramona follow until Escondido CA 78 connects to I-15 then follow I-15 toward Home. If you have any Q's? PM me and give me a time when you would like to go and I might get together some people and we will go out. The Trip lasts about 2-3 hours and I am sure blows LA's roads away.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

SICK thanks. I actually didn't end up doing the conversion. I instead put the money towards wheels, tires, and suspension. Sounds like mesa grande is where it's at. I am all about super crazy tight turns like decker or latigo etc. I should be going back up to la to pick up the car, so maybe this weekend or soemthing. It will depend on if it's done as well as how much outlining I have to do etc. for midterms

POST 8Original post

SPR, I was really looking forward to seeing your conversion. I heard there was someone in the LA area performing wide body conversion, the pictures I've seen looked awesome. Glad to see that you're getting your car back though.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah sorry. I looked into it and while I could have done it for a pretty reasonable cost, I decided against it becuase I didn't know if I honestly would like the car after the repair, never know, and other factors - i.e. might want something else afterward. I will say this however Golden hammer did an insane job on the car's body and paint. You cannot tell where the work was done period. Since I like the car again, I got those bbs re's on it now and I will be doing pss9's and ecu, headers, gt3bars, and some more junk

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

so how would I end up getting to those spots and exactly how far away are they? I am not really into driving too far just for some fun, unless it's really worth it but more than 45min drive to is excessive. thanks

POST 13Original post

This drive it what the San Diego PCA does and it is fun. As for the length it would take about 25 minutes to get there from La Jolla. The Black line is from La Jolla to the CA 94 The Black dotted line is the beging of the trip.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

that doesn't look too overtly lengthy. hmm I wonder how much work I have after class, well the weather looks ****ty anyways

POST 19Original post

i'm probably game most of the time if you guys are interested. lemme know.

POST 20Original post

I'd be interested also. I also would like to see your SC kit on your car Ben. Let me know when you plan on going.

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

maybe this weekend then? The routes look good.

POST 22Original post

hey guys, sunday AMs are usually out for me (except this one which is good) as are saturdays during football season. but, the week is usually pretty clear - and so are the roads. we'll encounter much less traffic during the week.

POST 23Original post

Rain is called for the rest of the week. 1-2 inches in the mountains. Myself Friday AM's - Sunday PM's is ok. And I think we should get together some more people for a run and possibly and lunch.

POST 24Original post

Sunday PMs work but Ben's comment on mid-week traffic makes a lot sense. Also would lead to bit more spirted drive.

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well I personally like to go with a small group of people so that I can do what I want, I drive particularly fast, however I have training to do so, I don't want to provoke someone into doing something stupid, which seems inherent in larger groups, that and the attraction to police!

POST 26Original post

Sure david, i'm game, but just remember you attract a lot less attention if you keep the groups smaller. some of those we've gone one with paul have had entirely too many cars turning it into a speed limit trip.

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Also that is not to say that I wouldn't want to meet up and check out different cars and shoot the bull, but just not have a concourse which promotes an inherently dangerous condition.

POST 28Original post

hey sean. there have been very few instances no matter what the group size. usually when there are a buttload of cars (read: PCA sponsored junk), people break into several different groups based on speed preferences. of course, i am usually in the speed limit group

POST 29Original post

Got it, but how would like 5-8 total cars sound?

POST 30Original post

5-8 is probably ok, but if we could stay nearer the low end...

POST 31Original post

5-8 is a good number for that drive. You tend to get drivers of similar experience and and an overall more consistent speed. Count me in if the group stays small and I'm in town.

POST 32 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I might go today after class around 2:30 or so anyone interested? I will be coming from downtown roughly. hit me up 3107703199

POST 33Original post

Sean, there is probably still mudd on the roads in the mountains, so be careful.

POST 34 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

yeah that's a good point. malibu doesn't that that nasty is some spots but in others it is rocky. I guess there is not much floiage and that area is subject to runoff.

POST 35 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

stupid laptop deleted a couple of words - but I think you get the gist

POST 37 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

interesting so is there a meet and go tomorrow or what?

POST 38 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Also, where the hell can I get 100 out here!!!!!

POST 39Original post

100 octane or 100MPH? and I won't be able to go until about a week or so.

POST 42 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

btw I like the icon, YEAY, YEAY YEAY hahah

POST 43Original post

The only place that I can think of is an airport or Trick Fuel in Mission Valley, but I think it is leaded.

POST 44Original post

Here is one place. http://www.cosbyoil.com/racegas.htm

POST 45Original post

And that is the place I was thinking of but it looks like it has what we need.

POST 46Original post

cosby won't let you put it directly in your car. i just buy 5 gallon jugs of 103 octane from group5 motorsports: http://www.group5motorsport.com/cgi-bin/GRPstore.cgi my mix (when i do it) is 5 gallons of 103 and the balance of a full tank in 91

POST 47Original post

db... on a different note... My wife has been eyeing a new Mini C S. She just finished building one on the Mini usa site and she's driven one. I noticed in your sig that you own one. I expect I will be getting her one for "my" birthday later this year. Big points :hiha: Tell me what you think about them and your experience if you don't mind?

POST 48Original post

For me too. However, when you make the run, you'll know why 110-112 mph is considered high. The roads east of 15 frwy have a lot of RV desert rats coming and going pulling trailers along with lots of scooters and rice burners heading to and from the hideout and Julian. IMO, there are fewer bikes on 79S verses 76. Not many places in SDCTY or RSCTY where I've found it safe for anything over 115mph and that's even in question. Best I've done is 128-130 for a any distance on 15 very early in am. A couple of quality back roads I've hit 110-115 but sharp blind "S's" force me to be cautious. Lots of no passing lane lines also. CHP is now using laser on a few segments of 15, so be careful. They're near 76 exit, Rancho Bernardo area, Temecula (between 79S and Winchester)

POST 49Original post

What's the benifits of mixing 100+oct with standard 91?

POST 50 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

the car is suppposed to run on 94 if you look at your gas door! so if you mix the 100 with 91 it bumps it up right, it makes a noticible difference becasue the timing is not retarded and it idles much nicer.

POST 51 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

hey does that place on mission gorge have 100 then? if so cool because I have friends that live right down the street from there. Anyone down for a drive today? I think I am going to check out those routes

POST 52 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

btw I am going to go to that gas station in about 1h and then off to the mountains through those paths- if anyone is interested hit up the cell listed previous

POST 54Original post

The MCS is an awsome car, it handes like a Porsche, it get more looks than a Porsche, and the cars are just plain fun. But the southern California dealers still want over MSRP for them. That is why I got mine in Texas. And BMW handels mantainence for 50K-4year.

POST 55Original post

That is why M-T or Sundays are perfect for the trip because everyone is coming back from the desert or nobody is there.

POST 56Original post

not a bad drive considering the rain, traffic, etc. nice meeting ya sean.

POST 57 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

HEHE, yeah that was pretty fun considering that damn FIRE truck thing. But yeah it was fun, it should be much moreso when dry and without traffic! On another note, is there a coin op or a place where I can wash my car around here? Cool meeting you as well. That supercharger is pretty fat. The only question is considering how, you/we were driving, how many tickets do you have man!!! j/k.

POST 59Original post

sorry sean but the coin opp car washes are usually near places that have check cashing stores and laudrymats :-) "the way you drive"? me? i am hoping you are planning to build a wildly successful ticket defense practice here btw, do you have an suspension modifications on your car?

POST 60 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My car is stock and the shocks are completely wasted, that's why it took me a while to get the feel of it again, that and the damn alignment is toed out so it's super twitchy with the 8.5" fronts. I want to do the same setup as you, but probably with a little less camber as I commute to and from school every day. I am going to get those bfg fronts in 225 and be done with it. Haven't decided on if I am going to do the pss9's now or what.

POST 61Original post

hard to tell if that much neg camber is really going to be that big a problem tirewise for you. of course, it depends alot on your driving. if you do enough aggressive driving, it'll probably balance it out. if you don't put in that much negative camber and do aggressive driving, you'll probably wear out the outsides just as fast as you'd wear out the insides with that much negative not driving aggressively. how many miles do you get out of a set anyway?

POST 62Original post

Ok how about we do something once when this crappy weather clears up? Say two weeks or so. What day would everyone prefer? And I think that I will add another road or two?

POST 63Original post

Me wifey...and I went into Orange Cty SA yesterday and drove another MC. She loves'em and I think their pretty cool. They gave me some song and dance that even if ordering one, he said they'd charge me 2k over what ever the cost was "just because". That bits! We have family in Houston and are going to investigate purchasing there and driving it back. Where in TX did you get yours db?

POST 64Original post

Moritz Mini in Arlington, they took really good care of me. Give me a little bit and I'll get the all the information for you. Here in San Diego the sales man seemed like he wasn't interested in selling me a MCS, so I just used them for a test drive.

POST 65Original post

And by driving it back you get to break it in on the way home. Driving it will take 18-20 hours of driving, and about $250 in gas, food, and a hotel. But then you have to do all of the registration yourself because it was not bought in California.

POST 66Original post

Thanks for the thumbs up and info... Humm, forgot about the registration issues, O well. My wife's family is Houston based, plus she has more family outside of Tucson. I figure we fly down with our golf clubs, buy, get in some golf, maybe visit Galveston house for a few nights.. drive back with a 2 night stop outside of Tucson for more golf and back home. The more I think of this, the more I like it.

POST 67Original post

Oh and Texas was the closest to California I found to get a Mini for the cheapest price.

POST 68Original post

And about the Mini your wife might want the new Cab. or "you" might want the MC40 only 1,000 will be produced. http://www.seriouswheels.com/

POST 69Original post

"But then you have to do all of the registration yourself because it was not bought in California" AAA has a registration service that is free to members.

POST 70Original post

ben.... GREAT reminder, considering we never use their services and we've been members since the woolly mammoth walked.

POST 71 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey Ben to answer your question on the tire thing, I don't know as I replaced the tires when I got the car and got about 8k on the last ones before the spin out wasted them. Do you have somene detail your car out here? If there is someone good and reasonable i think I will do that as I doubt I can wash it at my building etc. Either that or I will pursue a coin op somewhere

POST 72Original post

Sean, I use Black Forest in Cardiff. Ask for Tommy at [phone removed]. He always does a great job on all my cars. Bruce

POST 73 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

on black cars though? and how much etc? pm me if you like etc. thanks! I am also a student so.... yeah

POST 74Original post

Sean, My prior 996 was a 200 black Cab. Tommy is the only person who ever touched other than myself. He's great at reducing swirl marks on black and dark blue. A complete detail (I do this once a year) is $175.00 and takes him about 4-5 hours. He will also do only those tasks you want done (ie wash, wax or buff) Just give him a call and he can tell you what his cost would be. If you're stuck with just a wash and you can't do it at your building, you can use my house in Carlsbad (i've got soft water on the outside just for a wash). Let me know. Sorry I missed the drive. Sounds like it was a lot of fun and I still want to get a look at Ben's SC set-up. Good Luck, Bruce

POST 75Original post

hey sean, i use a kid named tyler @ [phone removed] who comes to me. he also does my neighbor's Z8 (black), Aston, etc.

POST 76 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

cool, I guess I will give those two referals a call and see about how much they charge for a wash etc. If not I might take up that offer to use your place in carlsbad, thanks.!

POST 78Original post

that's it! i'm movin' to So Cal somebody give me a million bucks so i can put a down payment on a 1 br 1 bath fixer upper!
