Next winter, after I have my inevitable dings and nicks, I will put on a pair of Perilli P210 snow tires and use the car all year, but not yet.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I received a call from Fred Baker Porsche that my new C4S arrived today. Unfortunately, it is typical Cleveland weather now, which sucks!
Now, do I take the car home and leave it in the garage, leave it at the dealer (He has offered to keep it as long as I desire), or take it home and drive it in the slush, salt and crap that is on the streets now?
Black ice early this am, saline slush later in the day here in NEO. Snow on the weekend. Brand new C4S ready for delivery. Man, talk about a tease!!!
I'd still take it home and park it in the garage, sit in the drivers seat, RTFM, play with all the little switches and doodads, walk around it a few times, then sit and play with the switches all over again
. A sunny day is bound to show up.
Or, just drive it around to get a feel, then rinse it out each time you get back in.
The idea of not using the C4S in the winter is not because it doesn't perform well. AWD and winter tires make it perform better than some SUV's, so long as the snow is not too high.
It's the salt that gets on the car, corroding the components and the paint finish. It's the little bits of rock and debris that have a tendency to nick and gouge out little pieces of the finish as they rebound off the car. Its the other cars and other drivers that seem to be attracted to the car and have a tendency to slide into the Porsche more than any other car.
If the car is leased and you intend to give it back in two to three years, then by all means, use it in the winter. However, I intend to keep the car "forever", so I conserve it's usable life span for the times when it is the most fun. If I do end up selling it sometime down the road, I can honestly say "never used in the snow and winter saline slush", and the finish will prove it.
I agree with Palting, I had my last porsche 7 years, so I plan to keep this one "forever".. the salt is laid down here by the tons and I am more concerned about nicks and scratches than corrosion (porsche are pretty well protected from this). I think I will keep the car at the dealer, he has agreed to prep it and store it inside until the weather breaks.
Picture will come soon (Atlas great/ graphite interior/ crest in headrest, bose, bi-xenon, supple leather, heated seats etc)

with respect--life is short and then you die
our resale values suck anyway
remember your recent inquiries about trade in for a gt3?
how much do you really think you'll improve your trade in by such meticulous care? my guess is not more than $2k--if that much.
i also expect to keep mine a long time. i don't think that a little salt will have a substantial impact on the longevity of a 2002 c4s. this is not a 356!
winter is bad enough without giving up driving my favorite car!
peace
I would have to agree. I had the Autobahnd installed at the dealer before I picked up my C4S Cab so the drive home from Boston wouldn't do any damage (to my mind that is!!). I can't wait to put the snow tires on her and take her out.
I don't have any grand illusions about the resale value of the car when it's time to sell her but I'm certainly going to enjoy the car in all types of weather.
You'd be amazed at how nice they clean up too, especially the Seal Grey!
A doctor calls a patient and say "I have bad news, you have only 10 left"
the patient replies " Oh my gosh, 10 what? years? months? weeks?
the doctor replies "9, 8, 7, 6..."
Life is not that short! I will survive 2 -3 weeks until better weather arrives. Next winter, after I have my inevitable dings and nicks, I will put on a pair of Perilli P210 snow tires and use the car all year, but not yet.

I live next door in Erie. I put my 2003 C4s to bed in late December.
Spring will arrive soon and I can't wait. Its like getting a new car each spring.
Mike
Congrats on the new ride. I know the anticipation must be difficult. Spring is just around the corner (at least according to our ground hog down here) Did you get the PSE?
spring in 2 or three weeks from now in cleveland? from your mouth to god's ears, but i think 2 or three months is more likely.
anyway my only point is that we need to enjoy our porsches now, not wait for the next owner.
...all you guys could move west
