The result is that the police man has to reset/restart the laser, the time taken to do that....you already gone :-)

Has anyone heard of laser being used by cops in California to catch speeders?

I also use an LRC100 jammer attached to the LCD display of my road angel....it gives you peice of mind when cruising.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

It was bound to happen. I just got my first speeding ticket in my pcar...
I was on a windy, canyon road and was accelerating hard out of a corner only to be zapped by a laser radar by a motocycle officer who was set up in an ideal location to catch spirited drivers. V1 let me know I was dead meat...
So now I'm looking at a hefty ticket and wondering why I didn't look into laser jammers before now. I've done some research and found that at least three (Escort, Bel, Blinder) seem to do a very good job of jamming laser.
Any experiences with these or jamming laser in general?
The jammer has to be where the cop aims at your car. I could be the license plate or a headlight. The laser likes the flatest spot because it reads the rebound.
I thought about it, but then how many sensors can you put on to defeat a clever laser operater?
You can't jam a laser, you can only diffuse it.
I use an LRC100 diffuser. It works by bouncing back the laser beam to the sender, thus confusing the machine trying to bust you. The result is that the police man has to reset/restart the laser, the time taken to do that....you already gone :-)
BTW: If a laser gun gets you, your gone. It only has to get you for a microsecond and your busted. So a warning is no use. Diffusing the laser is the only way.
I'm curious about this as well; the 99 C2 cab I bought recently has a K40 laser "diffuser" which mounts in the front grill just below the license plate. I have no idea if it works or not; I don't use the K40 radar that's on the car because I prefer my V1.

remove your front plate if you can. it's what cops most often aim at and it gives the best signature. they're required in a lot of states, but it's not really enforced at all. lighter colors and metallics reflect a lot more radar than a flat, dark color too. so you can always repaint your car.
Having done lots of research for myself, my 2 cents for the Lidatek !
Here some different addresses. Keep in mind that some "objective" reviews are conducted by Radar dectector manufacturers !!

In fact I am now certain of it.
This parts picture list of the LE-20 taken from the Lidatek website is identical to what you get with the Target LRC100.
So, without doubt, the Lidatek LE-20 = Target LRC100.
The sad fact is for us in the UK is it's about 100 cheaper if you buy it in the US.
Yes, they are the same thing:
The previous model to the LCR100 was the Target Laser Echo 850 which was the same one as the Lidatek LE-10 in the US, now the new model is called in Europe the Target LCR100 and in the US the Lidatek LE-20. In spain the cheapest way to get it is from the UK since they are ilegal in Spain.
Thanks for the tips, everyone. One more question: has anyone tried the "Veil" absorbant coating for headlights and license plates? At leat one comparison test found that it reduced the laser's ability to detect speed quite a bit...

Scouser - I agree about not painting the lights. But if it helps avoid laser I will gladly paint my license plates!
Rufus, I haven't dealt with this company, but here is one US source for lidatek:

I decided to go with an officer detection algorithm hard wired into my visual cortex via a Lasic-like procedure. Now I can spot cops before they spot me and simply slow down.
I hear that Lockheed makes this really cool matte black coating you can put over a vehicle. It costs about $250,000 but you are virtually invisible to radar
If that's too rich for your blood then you can install 3 or 4 laser diffusers on the front of your car. 1 around the license plate (K40), one in each of the "outer" grilles (Lidatek), and one on the dash (Lidatek). Since typical LiDAR beam dispersion is around 2'-3' at 1000yds, you should have your entire front end covered.

It looks like someone else is on the board is taking over the group buy.
I also belong to the BMW group and will send a PM for details.
Here is the response from James (NoSoup4U):

Yes, everything is still going on at the moment. Right now, I think we have around 70 some people from the M3 and M5 side of things. Anymore questions, feel free to ask.

Scouser,
its getting ridiculous over there with those GATSO cameras huh... not even the ambulances get out of contesting the speeding tickets when on an emergency service

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/w...re/3207466.stm
Maybe the Department of health is interested in that group buy of the LE30 for their ambulance fleet
That is unreal Scouser, its gotten ridiculous... at least radar detectors ar legal there.
BTW, is your Bel550 picking up the radars OK? I had problems with it picking up any of the radar due to the whildshiled having some metal in it that blocked the microwaves of the radars. I had to install the Bel966 Remote which works great and also invisible since detectors are ilegal here. I was going to try to adapt the Bel550 to the bike or the wife's car but never got around to it yet.
Interesting. The 550 works fine for me. But it does get its share of false alarms. In all honesty I have only once been saved by it that I knew that it saved me. I was plodding along at 90 and the alarm went off lights flashing. I slowed up. About 500 meters down the raod on a bridge was the copper with the laser gun. I waved
Other than that, I tend to ignore its false alarms unless it starts to freak out. Fact is, mobile camera and laser guns are extremely rare now in the UK. Come to think of it I ain't seen one in over a year.
The one thing I do like about it is that it has a knack of telling me a Gatso is approaching. This is interesting as the Gatso is always pointing ahead of me. Saying that, the Bluei is an absolute gem. I mean anyone driving in the UK just has to have one of these. It's GPS based and knows about every camera in the country, including mobiles and temp cameras (like on road works). You have to download the camera database each week. But it is fantastic. It has payed for itself so many times i lost count. Speed cameras are everywhere here. There are no less than 8 within a mile of any direction of where I live. They are great when your on the road, not really speeding but just over, your trying to follow a map and then the bluei tells you a Gatso is ahead. Man without that you just fly on by and collect a ticket for doing 5 mph over the top. I hope they never ban these beautiful gadgets.
I haven't seen a fixed Gatso cameras here EVER!
but I see my share of movile Ka band in camouflashed cop cars cruisin' along the highways at the speedlimit and some parked on the border somtimes. Very easy to spot by the radar as you aproach from behind. No laser yet but it will come, already being used in Madrid and Barcelona, by then I will alreday have the latest Lidatek installed
I wonder, do you think the US Lidar's would work in Europe.
I mean to buy it here would cost about 350. I know the US Bel550 doesn't for radar but that's why they brought out the Bell Euro 550.
Different frequencies. But I have often wondered if the US laser diffusers would work though. I don't need one of course but just wondering.
Also, how have you installed your LRC100? I have mine with the two transponders in my front rego plate.
Has anyone heard of laser being used by cops in California to catch speeders? It seems that most CA cops use radar. Do we need to worry about laser if we live in CA?
So far I have not come across anywere that the US Lidar guns are different than the Euro ones, unlike the radar, so I would bet that they are the same, however I am not 100% sure.
I don't have the Lidatek installed on mine, since there is no Lidar in this area yet, I'm waiting till it is, and then get the latest Lidatek available.
Hope my jumping in isn't unwelcome
thought I'd add that Motor Trend has a test of the usuals in its latest issue and a report on the top three at each price break. (The report on all of those tested is said to be on the website.)
Their opinion: the Escort does a marginally better job than the Valentine at laser detection and, with a $500 upgrade, can be made into a laser diffuser they think works very well. Pretty pricey (Escort + diffuser = $800+) but it could pay for itself pretty easily if fines and insurance surcharges are combined. J
John - My V1 alerts laser from time to time so yes, it is being used at least in SoCal. Also IIRC laser diffusers are illegal in CA...of course that doesn't stop most people.
I personally think it's cheap "insurance"...combined with a good radar detector, a Beartracker and an 11-99 plate you can't get any better protection.
