Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Greetings Everyone...I spent the last hour or so reading this forum and all you have my compliments on providing good information, even though some of you obviously have too much $$ on your hands. Anyways, on to my question. I am currently a BMW 330i owner and I will have to say that this really is an outstanding car for the price. I have read many newsgroups posts about people seeking advice on whether to purchase an M3 or 911 and I have asked myself the same question for a couple years. My real desire is undoubtedly a 911 and thus, I have been keeping an eye out for a year or two old one that is a cream-puff. A local dealer, that is very reputable and I currently have experience with since my Mercedes was purchased from the same franchise, has a left over 2003 C2. Here's the specs: Arctic Silver, Black Full Leather Interior, Black Floor Mats, Bose High-End Sound Package, Self-Dim Mirrors & Rain Sensor, Aluminum Look Interior, Wheel Caps with Colored Crest, Supple Leather Front and Rear, 18" Alloy Carrera Wheels, Power Seat Package, Porsche Crest in headrest, Lumbar Support for both right and left Seat. The MSRP is $81540 and the Invoice is $70233. The dealer has indicated to me they are willing to discount deeply to move the car to keep their volume sales up to bring in 2004 models. I do realize that there is some truth to this and the economy has not been kind on high-end cars. So I ask, what do people feel would be a good to outstanding deal in order to make purchasing this vehicle worth it? Thanks!

POST 2Original post

When I last visited my dealership, the salesman indicated that they were selling leftover 03's at invoice. He also said that Porsche leasing is keeping the residual the same as for the 04's. This makes for a pretty good lease or purchase deal.

POST 3Original post

all year long dealers were moving cars with upto 10k off MSRP. Usually anything cloe to invoice is great deal... But you are at the end of the year and IMHO @ sitcker will be a decent deal, anything below sticker, is where I would target is a great deal. Try to remember that last year people were getting 85K cars for 75K

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the replies. This does help immensely. I'll have to confess that I was testing the waters a little by throwing this question out there. I spoke with the dealer for a couple hours yesterday and as much as I tried to keep a cool veneer about me, he keep throwing numbers at me to get some sort of reaction. I had to remove my jacket when he hit the -$13K mark. I'm gathering now that this would be about as good as it could get at this time and I should jump at the chance to own this vehicle new. Thanks again for your responses...

POST 5Original post

id be interested to know if 13k off is still valid now that the books are closed for the year.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Meaning that there was a window when this deal *could* have been offered, but you think that it may no longer be the case because the opportunity for end of year numbers is now closed? (I see you are a dealer, great to get some inside scoop. Do you think this may have been too good to be true?)

POST 7Original post

Let me make sure I got this right..... the dealer is offering $13,000 off of the invoice ($70,233)?!!! OR $13,000 off of the MSRP ($81,540)? I just want to be sure as I know my local dealer also has '03 C2 in his inventory that I could be tempted (especially if your dealer is willing to discount $13k off of the invoice). If you tell me your dealer is willing to take off $13k off of invoice.... I'LL BE HEADING TO MY DEALER IN THE MORNING!

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not sure why you thought that...but it is MSRP - $13K. However, they do have 2 '03 leftovers.

POST 9Original post

Hehhehe.... Just wishful thinking I guess.... Still that's a great price but I'm afraid that won't be enough to convince the CFO. There are 2 '03 at your dealer eh? The dealers around me seem to have more than 2. Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't drop by and see what they'll do.

POST 10Original post

Just for your information, in today's New York Times, Manhattan Motorcars in NYC is advertising $15k off MSRP on 14 2003 996's, cabs, coupes and targas in stock.

POST 11Original post

If the dealer offered -$13k, there must still be some room there. Offer -$15 and see what he says? Ask him to throw in a Cayenne?

POST 12Original post

I have two 03's in stock also. A guards red coupe at ~83.5k and a black c2 cab demo with 3k miles, similiar msrp. When I get back to the office tomorrow, ill see what deals are available. send me an email at [email removed] if either of those cars interest you.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

(Speed) Thanks for the tip...I tried to look for any details online with NY Times but did not see anything. Without second guessing the situation, I wonder if it is "upto" $15K on their highest end car. I may decide to give them a call tomorrow and see that they have in inventory. If they have equivalent or more options as compared to what I am looking at locally and willing to discount to -$15K, I will have to weigh that against taking a trip up to NY and driving it back. The other issue that comes to mind with possibly buying it elsewhere (sorry to start a new thread here) is preferential treatment. I do not have any experience with Porsche (although I do with the dealer as I stated above in my first post) and I have come to enjoy priority treatment when you purchase from the dealer if you require any warranty work. I know that many may counter with me on that one, but if it came down to only a $1K difference, I would still buy it locally as savings on my time and keeping a relationship with the dealer. But again, this is all speculation until I have some more info on the bottom-line. Thanks again Speed!

POST 14Original post

$20k+ off is not at all uncommon. This is one of many I've seen (and this is a cab not a coupe!): $73k for $93k sticker cab

POST 15Original post

I don't know if its just me but the pictures of that cab on ebay have to be the worst pictures. They don't do it justice at all. The rear pic is hideous. Bits of paper in the front pic. Wires hanging. And the parking lot shots are real nice. Not. They obviously don't like this car and can't wait to get rid. And at $20k off, you have to ask why. I would say offer them $25k off and they would jump at it. Geesh! somone needs a marketing course.

POST 16Original post

a buddy of mine just got a C2 for a couple hundred over invoice from a dealer in new hampshire. you should be able to get the car for invoice or even a little under. there are incentive programs and other little things porsche offers so the dealer doesn't really pay invoice, usually a couple thousand under that by the time all is said and done.

POST 17Original post

In December I bought a leftover 2003 C2 at a discount of ~13K. I was told the same story at two dealers, that the factory was offering huge incentives to dealers to move their 03 inventory. I was trading my 89 C4 and was very impressed with the effort made by the dealer to get the deal done, both on the trade and the discount. While there may have been a slight bit more on the table, I don't think there was much. I don't know whether the incentives lapsed at year end or not.

POST 18Original post

New to the forum,,, first post... Just picked up a 2003 C2 coupe with 6k miles for 62k.... Why buy new when there are tons of low mileage cars out there for the taking.... Good Luck Zubunure

POST 19Original post

Folks There was a PCNA program that lapsed on 01/02/04, which provided a $5000 rebate to dealers on '03 996 models..... I offered a dealer $4500 under invoice with NO FEES on a MSRP Coupe of $80,000 plus today......said would have taken it on 01/02/04, but is checking with PCNA about it since I saw the car on 01/03/04..... Even then, that is several thousand over realization prices of new cars ( '03 ) being run the high line auctions..... Will post their answer....probably just gave them a backstop to make some calls.....But who knows Cheers

POST 20Original post

The Porsche store emailed me today..... Said PCNA was not willing to honor the discount program of $4,000 plus: even though I saw the car and my offer was the next business day after 01/02/04 Oh, well

POST 21Original post

I don't really think that should be of concern, although each dealer is different. I get my car serviced at Storms Motors in Southampton where I have a weekend house because they're open on Saturdays and are cheaper than Manhattan Motorcars. They have given me great service even though I didn't buy the car there. After all, the dealer makes money on service, including warranty work. And, Porsche is always polling owners on their service experience. The dealer hears about it if someone says something negative.
