Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just bought a 1999 C4 Cab and I have a number of questions. I apologize in advance for the length:
1. With the postings I have seen on this and other sites for the rms and other issues it is worth $2,000 for a 3 year extended Warranty? If so, can anyone suggest a reputable company for this?
2. I have a removable hard top but will only drive the car every couple of weeks over the next 3 months. Is it best to store with the soft top up or down. My garage is not heated and I am in Ohio.
3. Where best to acquire the Maps for the Nav system? My car came from the Mid-Atlantic so Ohio is not covered.
4. I have the Wood grain interior and the two arm rests have cracks. Is this a common problem? How much work and what cost to replace?
Thanks
Bobw
Bobw: Since I owned a Boxster with a hardtop I'll comment on #3. Having the hardtop on for 3 months should be no problem but make sure that you put the felt protective piece for the rear window in place before you install the hardtop. If you didn't get the felt piece with the car the dealer should be able to get one for you.
Also do a search on the RMS problems others have had. Lot of information out here on them. Cost to fix can be anywhere from $600.00 to $900.00 depending on where you live. Mine was replaced out of warranty after I spoke to the Porsche factory rep.
I recently got screwed on Warranty Gold. Paid $1900.00 for an extended warranty in February of this year and they filed chapter 11 bankruptcy. Spoke to my lawyer and she said not much chance of getting any of my money back. So be careful if you decide to buy an extended warranty. Porsche dealerships offer them but they are costly.
Warranty is tricky...I'm considering getting one for my 2000 C4...but most of the smaller warranty co's (like Warranty Gold) bit the dust. My company even did business with Warranty Gold...thankfully, we stopped doing business with them 6 months before they bit the dust.
Let me know if you find anyone else that is reasonably priced.
i got a warrantybynet.com warranty and so far so good. They have been around for some time now and do warranties for everything including cars.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
Bobby
I have a warranty with Dimension Service Corporation. It's a 3rd party company sold to me through my dealership. I am currently working with my attorney to get them to pay for my repairs. It's been 8+ weeks since I've last seen my car. It appears that they will be paying (new engine and tranny) , but on the other hand its taken some time....
