I had my RMS (out of warranty) replaced as a good will gesture.

As I said in my previous post, the dealership replaced my rms out of warranty at no cost to me however I did see the invoice chargeback from the dealership to Porsche for $670.00.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have read here that there was a TSB issued on this part and there is a replacement metal hinge kit.
I called my dealer today to see if this could be fixed out of warranty as a good will fix since a TSB was issued on it - got a ton of attitude from the service guy and he replied "Wish Porsche, out of warrany means OUT OF WARRANTY" (yea - he said it like that).
I was a little taken back - after all, this is only a hinge! What happens if/when the RMS ****s the bed ???? I have read of others here getting their RMS fixed as a good will gesture....
Should I bother to talk to my pcna rep or should I just get the kit and do it myself? Seems like an easy enough fix ....
This is fustrating to be dealt with like this considering this is the fourth car I have bought at this dealership!
Any insight would be appreciated !!!!
trev
I would say, buy the replacement hinge and save the good-will gesture when/if something big goes wrong, especially a common big thing.
Not cool the attitude you got from the dealer. How disapointing. Just my $.02
I had my RMS (out of warranty) replaced as a good will gesture. Fortunately when I went to the dealer the factory rep was on site. I spoke to him directly and he assured me it would be no problem and it wasn't. I often wonder though if he was not on site how the dealership would have treated me??? If you feel strongly about it I would get the factory rep name and contact him directly. I would also mention to the factory rep that you were not happy with the dealers comments. From my experience and others I know, Porsche makes every effort to satisfy their customers and I am sure they would reprimand the dealership for treating a customer unjustly.
since most of our 99 996s are now out of warranty, can some
of you that have had major work done such as rms and maf
etc. post what that has cost you so that others facing this
in the future know what to expect?
A few days ago some were saying an RMS was about $800 bucks. Anyone else paid for and RMS?
I know you can expect to pay $80-90 an hour from most private P-car shops.
I know one shop in my area that tried to charge me $300 for a 4 wheel alignment (hahaha).
As I said in my previous post, the dealership replaced my rms out of warranty at no cost to me however I did see the invoice chargeback from the dealership to Porsche for $670.00. Now whether the dealer would have charged me more if I had to pay it is anyones guess. They may have jacked it up somewhat but I do not know that for sure. I am located in the Northeast. I have read other posts, for instance in the NYC area where the charge was around $800.00.
RMS = 8 hours labour = ~$800. But you would probably change the clutch at the same time = ~400 (clutch only no labour, calculation based on exchange rate from UK Sterling). On early cars (996 & 986) may also need
to replace the clutch release lever and ball journal in the bell housing another ~ 1 hour labour.
My dealer BH porsche said they would not cover the airbag light seat belt sensor TSB since I was the second owner. It costs $120-$150 for new receptacles and labor.
What does being a second owner have to do with known TSB's??
Known problems should be resolved, Porsche dealers like BH are only alienating potential future customers by saying "no" due to a technicality.
I'd keep complaining if I were you, contact a rep.
Brian,
I heard the same story from another porsche owner who was not the original buyer. According to the dealership, this decision came from the porsche rep. Until they had heard from him they told me that it would probably be covered.
