Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I have made a DVD of several installs, with the stalk and with the switch, and explain how the wiring and part numbers have changed over the years.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

14 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I just added the OBC stalk to my recently acquired '99 (it was bugging me knowing that there's a feature there that I can't access!). Got the four stalk assembly for ~$110 shipped, plus misc. connectors and wires at $20. Anyway, I have some extra connectors which are BMW parts (my parts guy ordered too many). All of the instructions I've seen have a two part Porsche connector but I guess the new updated part is a one piece. Send me a buck and I'll send you one out. PM me if you're interested. Jeff

POST 2Original post

Where did you buy that stalk assembly from. I want to do that mod in a couple weeks. THanks Bobby

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

got it from LA Porsche, (818) PORSCHE (767-7243)

POST 4Original post

Wow... this is what my dealer just quoted me for parts: 996 613 219 10 ewc $ 207.74 -- 4 arm stalk 996 613 503 01 a01 $3.02 -- obc cover 996-552-096-01-a03 $44.99 -- non smoker cubby 996 552 596 00 $5.95 -- rubber mat 996 652 103 00 a01 $5.19 - non smoker plug 996 613 144 00 a02 $25.14 - central locking rocker 996 552 960 01 $24.51 -- center console hinge kit Ummmm... are these prices out of line ???

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

the $100 + shipping price that i paid was from a wrecked 996...it was actually cleaner than the one i had on my car. as for the other parts, can't vouch for them except for the hinge kit, i paid the same price so that must be close to list price, if not list. Jeff

POST 6Original post

So... all I have to do is buy a four-stalk assembly and do some wiring. Than I can access my OBC? That's it?

POST 7Original post

For the 'other Jeff' looks like I cannot PM a picture of the connector and cover. This is what we use. Maybe you found a part that does the same job.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

here's the connector i have...except i forgot the PN at home! the PN on the part isn't what I used

POST 9Original post

Please do share. Is it just adding the stalk etc? Spill the beans man

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

There's a bunch of good write-ups on this (do a search for stalk...or OBC...) that I found (the links are on my home computer) but here's the gist of it--you add the whole four stalk assembly (just under the turn signal you get one more stalk), plug it into a wiring harness that you make (takes about 10 minutes to make) and that's it. However...if you don't have the outside temperature display showing then you have to get your dealer to turn it on. I just found a link w/ some more info... http://www.brackenrig.net/OBC_Hack.htm

POST 11Original post

Here are two great links I found: Install Instructions for the Stalk OBC Hack information

POST 12Original post

The pictures in the link are of me taken by Dan from about 2 years ago. We did the retrofit on 6 cars at the same time. I do not do it exactly that way anymore. I have made a DVD of several installs, with the stalk and with the switch, and explain how the wiring and part numbers have changed over the years. Jeff

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

FYI...the BMW PN for the new style connector is 61 13 8 365 308
