Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I also replaced my 18" technology rims with Phattey's 18" Carreras.

Suggestion
The only downside is that I had to replace all four tires with Michelins due to a torn interior sidewall on the the rear righthand side tire.
Use existing nut and fastener and anything laying around

I good trick for spreading the clamp that holds the tip on: See the picture below....use the existing nut and fastener and anything laying around to spread that sucker open.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Got the exhaust tonight. Box came well packed. Exhaust looked pretty decent out of the box. Have a few scratches on it that won't be seen but I would have like it to look a little better. Welds looked good. Bends looked good. Tips looked good. The black paint on the inside of the tips could have looked a little better but it wasn't too bad and will get dirty anyways.
The welded tabs on the exhaust can simply stand perpendicular and are welded to the can. I would have liked to see a folded over bracket that had a little more surface area but I'll assume the exhaust has held up fine to the shock and vibration of driving.
I removed the stock exhaust a few nights ago. Took about 1 - 1.5 hours on the ramps. I used these instructions for help:
Exhaust Instructions
It took about 1 - 1.5 hours to install the new exhaust. I took my time. Its a very easy install if you have ramps, safety glasses, a shop light and some tools.
Now the sound. Its got a great bark when you start it. I immediately felt a sigh of relief when that sucker cranked over and came to life. It sounded pissed!
I took it for a spin and couldn't believe how much it sounded like my friend's '89 911. Definitely more of an air cooled sound. I've heard the Fabspeed and I don't remember it sounding like that.
There was no resonance at all. Brian doesn't lie about that. My old M3 had a BB TriFlow and that sucker would give you a friggin' headache at certain RPM's.
Certain RPM's sound very similar to stock...especially with the windows up. With the window down, it sounds great. I'd love to hear it while driving behind it. Low RPM hard acceleration sounds awesome. High RPM hard acceleration sounds good but not like that low RPM! I also have my resonator box in the intake blocked off.
I good trick for spreading the clamp that holds the tip on: See the picture below....use the existing nut and fastener and anything laying around to spread that sucker open. You'd have to be some kinda muscle head to pull it apart with pliers.
Here's a few pics of the goods:
"Why did you choose this one over the PSE?"
Chose it soley on price. Have heard PSE and was not blown away by how great it was. Sounded similar to the GHL. I mean, it's not like the PSE makes your car sound like a Le Mans car or anything. Plus, the aftermarket exhausts look way better and are probably lighter.
"Looks good, no resonance. Can't beat that, plus you're saving some weight compared to stock or PSE. Post a sound file."
From my experience, sound files for exhausts are pretty useless. You have to hear it in real life.
so jake
you feel the ghl is closer in sound to pse
than it is to fabspeed
i wish i could hear it but i am too far away
i guess i could take them up on the 30day moneyback deal
also do you feel any loss of midrange torque
or any other power (as in loss) effects
thx
roy
Although I've heard all three now....I can't really compare them without hearing them all back to back which leads me to believe that they are more similar than different. Especially in decibel level. Next time I'm around C4_Leon I'll try to compare them. He's got Fabspeed exhaust and headers. There's a guy at work here with the PSE on his '99 but I don't talk to him much. He bought it with it on and he's not into it like many of us.
As far as power loss. I don't feel any. In fact, it seems to rev a little more freely. We all now that sound adds some HP to the butt dyno, right?
I want one!
but what about the P warranty?
I mean if they want to be d!<ks about it, they can blame almost anything on any mod.
I gotta go up the service guys and take a sounding on this, anybody tried this?
I received and installed the GHL yesterday. I found that the most difficult part of the installation was installing/removing the three 13mm bolts that bolt the muffler bracket to the car. Access to those bolts is real tight... Especially when doing the right side, I had to use my left hand and it was cramping quite a bit. Doing the second muffler on the left was a breeze.
Ah, yes, and the adjustment of the tips. I don't think that I've achieved the perfect placement yet, it's not easy. I'm attaching a couple of pics, and would appreciate your opinion
The sound is great. The car finally sounds like it should. I haven't driven it enough to make a good judgment on resonance yet, it did seem fairly loud at low RPM (2,000-2,500) chuging up the hill this morning.
I also replaced my 18" technology rims with Phattey's 18" Carreras. Love them. Here's to you Phattey
And here's the car with the wheels (this pic looks very indsutril, doesn't it?). The only downside is that I had to replace all four tires with Michelins due to a torn interior sidewall on the the rear righthand side tire. Without the benefit of using tirerack (who, by the way, appear to have Contis back in stock), this little misadventure ended up costing me $$$$$
I am sure it is a nice product - but the PSE is the only exhuast with purely zero resonance - and there is no better porsche exhuast sound for the 996 - I wish they made it for the TT as well
