Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

sorry i forgot to mention that usually tyre pressure is checked before you go out of your car, cold tyres..

Get the Intercomp, liquid filled, 0-60 psi, with bleeder.

I use an Accu-Gauge for both auto-x and kart racing and it works great.

Suggestion
You should fill your tire to a couple of psi over what you intend to use, then bleed down to final number.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

What is recommended? How is a generic gauge from Costco?
Also, I find that when putting in air at gas stations (in other cars), there is typically a few seconds of air coming OUT of the tire - is that normal? What does 5 seconds of air coming out translate into lost PSI?
Thanks
wino
1) even if you use a station pump to fill your tyres.. Buy a little tyre guage, there are some which are even electronic and accurate as well as easy to use... this will eliminate the doubt of having a wrong tyre pressure.. Moreover, you might need the hand guage occasionally if you want to check your tyre pressure, say after a long run on a hot/cold day...
2) the tyre pressure is best recommended by the manual, supposing you have stock rims/wheels.. Otherwise, it really depends on the tyre size.. The pressure recommended can vary between 33/36 to 36/42psi (front/back)
3) finally, your driving style shall determine the final tune-up to be able to control understeer/oversteer.. tight curves, etc..
Not to mention that my own zerorosso blew at 200kph two days ago and i still cant find a replacement (out of stock.. damn i hate pirellis)

Get the Intercomp, liquid filled, 0-60 psi, with bleeder. You should fill your tire to a couple of psi over what you intend to use, then bleed down to final number. The Intercomp will allow you to do this with the gauge still on the valve stem. Plus, it's about as accurate as you're going to get.
I bought the accutire unit with the nice handle at target. It checked out fine compared to my Mom's guage from Griots. I think it was $20 or something.
Also, for about $100 I bought a nice compact upright compressor from Home Depot a couple of weeks ago. It fits nicely between my cars and it's a convenient way to do a true cold tire adjustment on a Sat/Sun morning. I hate wrestling with those gas station pumps with the self-retracting hoses.
My recommendation would to be sure it has a "bleed off" valve. This lets you keep it connected to the valve and bleed off some air to get to the desired pressure. A must have IMO.
As far as a particular unit I couldn't say. I use an Accu-Gauge for both auto-x and kart racing and it works great.
About $16 at my local speed shop.
