Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I tested drove the above car and the brakes seems to be usually stiff.

Wow, replacing a clutch will cost a few thousand on a Porsche?

You can have this checked if the service manager at the local dealer would run the VIN through their computer.

You need to use more pressure than normal to stop the car, is this normal for a Porsche?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

This will be my first Porsche, and I'm trying to learn as much as I can before deciding. I'm currently looking at a 1999 Carrera 4 with about 60,000 miles. I'm trying to figure out if there are any major services (hidden cost) that needs to be done at this high mileage. Like clutch, filters, or engine tuning. What kind of going price will a car like this fetch in good condition, but without much options. Any other things I need to considers before deciding.
Thanks in Advance.
i was told the 60,000 mile service is around $650 at the Downtown LA Porsche dealership. this obviously does not include clutch and brake service which may or may not require replacement depending on wear...
I tested drove the above car and the brakes seems to be usually stiff. You need to use more pressure than normal to stop the car, is this normal for a Porsche? Does $38k seem like a fair deal for a 99 C4 with 60k miles on the odometer in good condition (regular wear and tear).
yes, the brake pedal is pretty stiff. $38k does not sound bad at all. check out
www.edmunds.com,
you can value the car precisely including options, mileage etc. a fair price would probably be somewhere between retail and wholesale... make sure to have the car inspected by a qualified mechanic prior to purchase. if possible, get a porsche PPI (standard inspection). good luck!
i wouldn't rely on edmunds. do a nationwide search or may be your region on autotrader.com with similar miles. It will give you a better idea of the true market price of the car. My 99 C4 with 22k is valued at 30K but i know i can get 45-50K in teh private market in teh spring.

aron-there is no way that you can take the car without an independent inspection by a competant porsche mechanic. if you are buying the car from a dealer, it must be done by a different dealer. i wouldn't trust a thing that the person who is trying to sell you the car (owner, salesman) says. i assume that the car is without warranty, so it is buyer beware. not until you find what needs to be done, if anything (clutch can cost a few thousand) can you discuss price. the car is on the hi side of miles, as 7-9k miles are normal useage for a 911.
And, the price is high. You can get a much lower mileage 2000 for not much more. You could be out $4000 in a heartbeat if any significant repairs are needed. AS
I know you can find a 2000 C2 for not much more. But the one I'm looking at right now is a Carrera 4. I think the Carrera 4 brings in more than the carrera 2. I just hope that the Porsche is a reliable high mileage car...
I had my 60k mile service done not too long ago at an independent shop for $850, the dealer near me (Newport Auto Center) quoted me close to $1,200. I would definite have a Pre-Purchase Inspection done by a qualified technician. Repairs on aren't cheap as you probably expected. I bought my pre-owned as well, since I'm already out of warrantee I no longer take mine to the dealers.
Good luck and have fun on your purchase. Make sure all the TSBs has been addressed. You can have this checked if the service manager at the local dealer would run the VIN through their computer. I had my cars history reviewed by Newport Auto Center, no print out (needed the original owners permission) but I got a verbal run down instead. My car was serviced at Newport so they had the history. The Porsche automated system (accessed by McKenna Porsche's service manager) provided the TSB status as well as major repairs perform on the car (ie. transmission replacement).
