Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all Jusr Curious to know how many of you do or do not believe in an Extended Warrany from Porsche or a Third Party?? With This RMS thing why would any one Warranty a car with KNOWN PROBLEMS???

POST 2Original post

I'm all for the Porsch-certified extended warranty. But I wouldn't go for a third-party warranty under any conditions. I've already gotten my money's worth with the Porsche extended warranty I bought in June for my 1999 C4. The local dealer (not the dealer from whom I actually purchased the warranty) has been great about covering repairs under the extended warranty program.

POST 3Original post

BPR, would you mind providing details of your extended warranty (coverage, term, $, etc.)? Thanks.

POST 4Original post

Careful out there. Some aftermarket companies aren't going to be around that long. I recently read that 1 Source just folded (or maybe it was Warranty Gold). Do your homework and make sure that they're backed by a VERY strong re-insurance company...

POST 5Original post

check out this thread. I've had to get a lawyer. I bought my warranty at a porsche dealership too. https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ended+warranty

POST 6Original post

BPR: is that a warranty on Porsche you bought used from a dealer? I didn't think Porsche was offering extended warranties on cars that are owned from new. My Porsche dealer is very negative on extended warranties. Some companies insist on using used parts and will not pay the dealer's labor rates.

POST 7Original post

Could be the dealership is simply reselling 3rd party warranties for a cut of the price -i.e. you buy your 'Warranty Gold' or similar warranty through the dealership and it really has nothing to do with Porsche the company. Nothing wrong with that either as long as it's a reputable 3rd party.

POST 8Original post

I bought my 1999 C4 from a Porsche dealer, and as part of the purchase, I paid for the Porsche (not a third-party) extended warranty. The original warranty expired in May 2003, and I bought my car in June 2003 (which is when Porsche first started offering their certified extended warranty program). It's a 2-year/100K (whichever comes first) warranty, and it seems to be quite comprehensive. The retail price (I saw a copy of the Porsche warranty price sheet) for this extended warranty is $1,549, but I paid about $1K for the extended warranty.
