If I replace the Boxster S with a C4S cab or something, I lose some of the tossability and fun of the Boxster.

I wonder about replacing my E500 with a Carerra of some type but then I will have to get a 6-speed because my other Porsche is a tip, then the Boxster would be the freeway car, and that simply won't do.

Yes the boxster is small and tossable, but its not like the C4S is a monster...go test drive one, that will make up your mind, but I'd be willing to bet if you got a C4S cab, you wouldn't be driving the boxster much...

If I do a Porshce duo, then I have maybe a C4S or TT instead of the E500 (huge difference in price, though, even if I go late model used, low miles) then I need to consider what to do about the tranny.

We use my wife's car for family road trips, and my E500 was essentially for when I had to go to Los Angeles.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm sure some of you are/were in the same boat as me, or similar, and I need some advice/feedback.
I LOVE my Boxster S - only thing I'd change is maybe get a 6-speed next time, as the tip was for freeway driving and I miss getting the most out of the engine every once in a while. I had a 6-speed loaner, and while it was much more fun, it was annoying to drive in stop and go traffic.
Currently I have an S for fun and an E500 for freeway driving. I'm so addicted to Porsche now that I want more Porshce - more, more, more! I wonder about replacing my E500 with a Carerra of some type but then I will have to get a 6-speed because my other Porsche is a tip, then the Boxster would be the freeway car, and that simply won't do.
There's the possibility that I could go down to one car, although I love having the option of two. (my wife currently drives an A6 Avant, but we're on the lemon law claim with it right now, so soon she might be driving an RX330 if Audi does a buyback) With one car, I'd need a cab, because I can't imagine being without a convertible now, having so much fun in the Boxster S.
I do less driving than I used to - used to do about 20k/year, now down to about 13k-15k probably. We use my wife's car for family road trips, and my E500 was essentially for when I had to go to Los Angeles.
I love the E500 for what it is, but I really want another Porsche, as I now have the desire to experience MORE Porsche. If I replace the Boxster S with a C4S cab or something, I lose some of the tossability and fun of the Boxster. If I do a Porshce duo, then I have maybe a C4S or TT instead of the E500 (huge difference in price, though, even if I go late model used, low miles) then I need to consider what to do about the tranny. The freeways suck in high traffic when you have a clutch to deal with, but I don't go up that often either. Because I am driving less and less up to LA, I start to wonder if 1) I even need 2 cars or 2) if a manual tranny is just fine for the few times I'll be stuck in traffic...
HELP!
(I'm probably not making any sense here)
My wife and I love her Boxter, but found wind noise a bit high for long trips with the top up and the engine right behind you. The C4S comes standard with lots of ammenities that are optional on the standard Carrera. I find it an excellent mix of a luxury car when you want to cruise long trips and a sports car all the time. Addition of a B&M Short Shifter kit makes every shift enjoyable...even in traffic. If you need a Cab, the new C4S Cab is the car to have because the Carreras cabs are much quieter than the Boxter with the top up.
Keep the E500, buy a C4S cab. I'd love to have that combo. We went from a Boxster to a C4S coupe, and I don't often miss the Boxster, but they are very different cars.
I'm with Mark and the doc,
Ditch the boxster, keep the E500. Yes the boxster is small and tossable, but its not like the C4S is a monster...go test drive one, that will make up your mind, but I'd be willing to bet if you got a C4S cab, you wouldn't be driving the boxster much...
Big difference in price here - I can't just ditch the Boxster and jump into a C4S - I need to consider cost. Trading in the E and Boxster for one car is doable, even if I go TT, but then I worry about missing the cab top.
