Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I went with the MB Quart seperates up front and put the 5 1/4" in the door and the tweeter in the dash, replacing the stock speaker.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I want to start upgrading my stereo system but want to do it in stages. First, I want to get MB Quart speakers installed. Can I just drop them in or is there some proprietary problems with the porsche stereo system. I have the HIFI system with the speakers in the doors. Basically, Can I just get the new speakers and drop them into the stock locations without any problem and wire them up to the stock system? Final question is what sizes do you all recommend. Other posts say 5.5 or 6.5 inchers in the door 1 inch tweeters and 6 inch coaxials in back. SOund good?
Bob
The 6" coaxials will not fit in the back without modification. Get a 3 way component system for the front and a decent amp to power it with. 3 way components consist of a separate tweeter, 4" mid, and 6.5" bass driver. The 6.5" driver will fit behind the stock door enclosure though the shop will have to fabricate a baffle to mount the speaker on (not expensive). The 4" and tweeter can easily fit into the dash, though I am not sure if it is an exact drop in. Take a look at the JL Audio XR-653cs... Focal and Quart have similar designs. The rear speakers are the same as the dash, but I would not mess with replacing them... they are not heard anyways. If you just have to do it, just go with a 4" coaxial for fill.
Bob, I have the same car and just recently overhauled the entire system. The door speakers in the '99 with Hi-Fi are 5 1/4", and the seperates in the dash are 4" mid and 1" tweeter, same for the rear. I went with the MB Quart seperates up front and put the 5 1/4" in the door and the tweeter in the dash, replacing the stock speaker. I used Boston Acoustic 4" coaxials in the rear. If I had to do it again though I would go with Boston seperates in the front as well, but that's just MPO. Had a custom subwoofer enclosure built by
