It had never happened until I ran low enough for the fuel light to come on.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

For some reason I can't get the gas tank to fill up all the way. Even after repeatedly trying to put more gas in after the handle clicks I can't get the fuel indicator to show full. I know there was a TSB on the fuel gauge software and mine has been updated. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks in advance. Pat

POST 2Original post

There have been times when I've filled up and know the tank is full, but the gauge still shows near empty. After awhile it will just fixes itself. This has happened twice now.

POST 3Original post

(1) Does this happen at different gas stations. (2) Is the key out of the ignition when you fill up.

POST 4Original post

I just got a 2003 C4S. The first fillup only allowed 1/2 tank. The bnext fillup only allowed 11 gal when computer said it was empty, 32 miles to go. Is it the software?

POST 5Original post

Sometimes mines clicks off every couple of cents. On other pumps it works fine. Might be some sort of incompatbility with various pump manufacturers?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Toolpants, The answer is yes and yes. I can't seem to get it to fill up. Key's are always out. I'm going to try removing the nozzle and waiting 30 seconds after it click off. Maybe it's a vapor/fumes thing? I would say it started happening the past two weeks. Before that it was fine. What's your diagnosis? Pat

http://www.pca.org/tech/tech_qa_question.asp?id= {9BC7CB6B-C615-47A9-BDC8-138BB14175F9} For Pat. I'm a Boxster guy. You ruled out 2 other potential issues. The Boxster has a similar problem due a a change in the emission system that started in 2000. Peter, the PCA tech advisor is a friend and the shop foreman at my local dealer. Operate the flap in the filler tube and see if you hear the click and then check the fuse. If no click and your fuse is blown then that is the problem. If that is not the problem then they need to hook the car up to the PST2. The fuse blows due to the cell phone connector/wire touching ground and blowing the fuse. On the 2003 Boxster the factory started putting duct tape over the connector for this reason. Hope that is the problem as it is an easy fix. Jeff

POST 8Original post

I have an '04 C2 and just had my gauge not register any higher when I filled up yesterday. It had never happened until I ran low enough for the fuel light to come on. I've had the car for a month . . . warranty time I guess. Sean

POST 9Original post

I'm thinking of unhooking the battery to reset software/fuel gauge . . . is this a bad thing? Sean

POST 10Original post

BTW, It never seems I've had the issue with the tank not actually taking gas. I looked at the receipt a bunch of times to make sure I had in fact put gas in it last night when the gauge didn't register and light didn't go out!!! I just looked again . .. . 13.46 gallons! Sean

POST 11Original post

Could be a bad sender unit in the tank or something with the instrument cluster. The dealer will figure it out when they hook up the car to the PST2.
