Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
In short check every detail on that lease, most of the 'deals' out there turned out to have not so obvious problems when I investigated this route.
Leading evidence: 'have not' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'have not' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check every detail' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Make absolutely certain that its a clean walk away lease first.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just sold my 993 C4S (still grieving
) due to my potential job loss at the end of next year and I realize that I can't be without a Porsche for the 2 years or so it might take for me to know where I'll stand after my company's acquistion. I'm thinking the smart move for me would be to assume a lease on a 996 (rather than tying up the $40K+ from my 993).
I've done some research and it looks like it's straight forward. Most people will pay you some incentive to assume their lease and then you make the payments (and assume the liability) to the end of the lease. The advantages to this are:
1. Newer car under warranty
2. No capital out of pocket
3. A 1 to 2 year commitment then I walk away
Am missing anything? Any leads?
Thanks!
Bill
Great Idea!
but...
Make absolutely certain that its a clean walk away lease first.
Look for mileage excess charges which can be very high, (it would be a nightmare if your car had been spun back, which is not entirely impossible)
See what the return condition paramteres are, ie: wear on tires, stone chips, interior wear etc. In short check every detail on that lease, most of the 'deals' out there turned out to have not so obvious problems when I investigated this route.
Bill, hello from the 993 board. Based on the circumstances you mentioned, I would think really hard before assuming a high monthly liability with no equity at the end of the day. Should you be unfortunate and lose your job, you will still be responsible for the huge payment.
Thanks for the advice and tips.
Thanks for looking out for me, adsc4s, but the idea behind a year or so lease would be that at the end I don't have to worry about getting rid of a car when or if the axe falls. I don't mind reasonable payments for the next year or so, I would just hate to be caught with a hard to move auto if the times get tough
