Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Today I recieved the final parts I needed to finish my 996 Caliper rebuild (Color change). They came out so good that I wanted to share them with you. They came out perfect not a blemish! If anyone wants to do this upgrade shoot me an email w. I can do these in a one week turn around. I had planned on selling the calipers on the car now I guess I could use these as a core and could do these and swap them to give anyone interested little to no down time. Since they are powdercoated there are many colors to choose from. The powdercoating is very hard and durable as you know. This is the only way to do this upgrade!

Started with this...
Now I have this...!
They are stickers the factory using a special silk screening process. The stickers I use can stand up to the heat.
The Calipers are powdercoated... so are the calipers Porsche put on your car from the factory. It is the only way to do it. I did these on the rears of my 968 2 years no deterioration to the powdercoating, they had their fair share of Brake fluid on them. Now painting them or using a canned clear coat when in contact with brake fluid will make the CC wrinkle. I have first hand experience of this. Powder coating is VERY easy to clean and will withstand brake dust, fluids, heat, etc.
i've read a lot on it and the only reason to get the "big reds" is if you do a lot of track driving, which i don't. otherwise these standard brakes work just as well!
for mine, they did the red powder coating, then silk screened on the "porsche", then did a clear powder coat over that. they said that the paint for the silk screening would come right off in water but that the clear powder coat is a bulletproof outer finish that seals in the letters. it looks awesome, but it ran me more than $500.

i haven't slept since i picked it up from the shop on saturday night!
it's calling to me now. it makes it really hard to concentrate on work!!!!!
i think i'm going to have to do a LOT of driving over the next few days since the car has been in the shop for quite a while getting some repairs done. i also had a custom black paint job put on it since the original flat black one is pretty poor. i call it "Ultra Black" and you'd have to see it in person to understand how nice it looks. the calipers also look WAY better in person. the photos just don't do them justice! i'm not working on weds so i think my car may need to take a trip to a few states. maybe a quick run up to new hampshire and maine?
nice work.
unfortunately, i don't have the time or inclination for a diy job. does anyone know of a co. that will sell different color calipers on an exchange basis? i rather like the look of the silver 4s calipers...
I am doing this for a few people on an exchange basis I have a set of cores that will be used. I will also have some C4 calipers coming in, in silver which would work for you I am in OC (Laguna Beach) so the switch could be easy If you want I could even do the work for you at my place. Shoot me an email or PM.
Did you leave the pistons in? Every powder coater I know wont touch them with the pistons in them. Nice work BTW.

thanks matt! i'm trying to give my 996 some special touches that'll make it stand out.
i'm not sure if the shop left the pistons in or not, and now that they're back on the car with the brake pads installed it's impossible to tell without taking them off.
It isnt impossible :>) The reason I ask is that in the picture the piston appears to have red PC on the lip (i.e. around the edge of the caliper piston it appears red). Since PC is a hard coating this could be a problem with the way the pads seat over time. It might also be a mother to get new pads in (4-5mm of material that was not there). I would give them a call. I DO NOT have a 996 so it is possible they came that way but I would seriously doubt it. I cant wait to put on the big reds next year. After seeing this I am REALLY stoked. When we add the 996 for my wife to drive this might be project #1.

I lie, they certainly did PC the pistons. In the first picture they are black (well probably aluminum just dirty :>)) and in the last picture they are clearly red. I wonder if it will make any difference to functioning of the caliper? I really dont know.

This is how all calipers have been rebuilt by the guy who tought me how to do it. He has done probably over a 100+ sets in the last 4 or 5 years. My last set were done in this same way. PC is not a very thick layer and will not cause any problems seating...I did mask off the little **** that the pads sit on so those are down to the bare metal.
I have silver calipers on my C4.... they kind of blend with the wheels a bit much for my taste.
If anyone would want to swap for some red calipers let me know...
trev
Sandoval - I got you! It looks like the seals etc have been replaced. My concern was the PC (which should be 2-3mm) might cause a problem over the long run. Did you coat them separate from the caliper? I think it loosk terrific and if you left the spots where the pads go bare then you must know what you are doing. Are you using PC or are you using one of the other thermal coatings? If PC are you clearcoating? I am intrigued.

When you said the color was orange, did you really mean they are orange?
It looks like they're red to me.
Just curious as I have thought about painting mine orange but would like to see a picture first.
Maybe the color in your pics is off?
Thanks for the clarification.
I like orange but am a little afraid of deviating from the stock look.
When I get a dedicated track car then I'll go hog wild....
