Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

4 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The other day, a truck came up from behind and hit my rear bumper. My car lurched forward a good foot (parking brake was engaged). The truck only hit the two black bumpers on the rear. Strangely enough, after inspecting my car, it looks like there may be no damage at all. The only visible evidence that the accident ever occured was some dust was displaced where the truck hit my car. Other than that, the car *looks* fine. Question now is: Is it possible that my car really did not receive any damage at all? What are the black bumpers/***** on my 996 attached to? Are they directly attached to the frame (good) or are they attached to something else that may have broken during the hit (bad)? Thanks a ton for any advice that you may be able to give.

POST 2Original post

I'd get it checkecout out...the tranny might be kinda tweaked..but same thin happened to my 944 and no damage occured

POST 3Original post

Had a similar thing happen to me. In the UK we dont have bumperettes on our 996's. The bumper is deformable but there are heat shields under them which are not. Mine had to be repaired in the end despite only a small scuff mark on the bumper. It wont cost you anything for the garage to check it out.

POST 4Original post

I got nailed on the left bumperette at about 5mph. The only damage was a little crease on the bumperette, and a slightly shifted bumper (check your bumper alignment relative to the wheelwell arches. the shop repainted the bumperette, and realigned the bumper -- good as new.
