Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
The 911 seems to be easier on consumables -particularly brakes, and obviously brake changes are a breeze.
Leading evidence: 'Replace are a breeze' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace are a breeze' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
With proper cooling and if you're not on slicks, a dual use pad is actually an option, which is nice.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just curious if anyone has made the switch from a C6 corvette to a 996 and what your impressions were? I'm looking mostly for a '02+ coupe that can serve some weekend use and about 10-15 track days a year.
Any comparisons on track consumables? General thoughts on track handling comparisons, etc?
I've always wanted a 911 but never could bring myself to buy new but the pricing nowadays seems more than reasonable. Minus track days I really do not enjoy driving the corvette at all so if i can sell it a switch is imminent.
Thanks for any info.
I have a C5 and a 996 at the moment. My C5 is not highly modified (420ish hp), brake cooling, etc., and the C2 is running full GT3 suspension/ducts..., which by the way transforms the handling of the car... I've instructed in C6s and quite a few 911s though. Anyway, I found the lack of understeer on the Corvette pretty impressive, though the 911 still seems to have the edge in traction, particularly under acceleration in the wet/over bumps.
Anyway, they're not very comparable. The 996 is very much down on power, but has better brakes/modulation. Staying at ABS threshold is much easier. The handling can take a bit to get used to, and the steering is not as quick, but overall, it's a more enjoyable/satisfying experience. The 911 seems to be easier on consumables -particularly brakes, and obviously brake changes are a breeze. With proper cooling and if you're not on slicks, a dual use pad is actually an option, which is nice.
The best part of the 911 for me is how it rotates under trail braking and that steering... is just divine. The 996 is also far more sensitive to it's tires, and I wouldn't listen to people here saying Sumitomo or Nitto street tires are suitable for track use, as they're very much not.
Final note, most 996's will see oil pressure drop on long enough right hand sweepers, but not enough to trigger the light. The Corvette's oil pressure sending unit seems to have a built in delay/damper, so I wouldn't trust the gauge. I'm talking Roebling Road for example, and not VIR or CMP.
Hope that helps, if you have any specific questions, feel free to ask.
Thanks for the info. The more enjoyable / satsifying experience on track is exactly what i'm looking for. I'm surprised to hear that the car is easy on brakes, but also glad to hear it because i'm assuming rotor cost is nowhere near as cheap as the C5 / base C6 setup?
How is the 996 with keeping everything cool on hot track days? I'm currently getting my oil temps up in the 290 range during summer at Sebring even after adding a decent sized oil cooler. I'm ok with these high temps with GM replacement engines being what they are, but I nearly fell out of my chair to see that a new 996 engine is in the 12k range just for parts. Wow. Are engine and drivetrain cooling components a mandatory part of tracking this car for longevity sake?
Thanks for the tips on oil pressures. I don't hit Roebling often since it's a bit of a hike, but looking to add it a few times a year.
The considerable drop in horsepower and torque i'm not terribly excited about, but hopefully by the time I learn how to drive this car well the turbo will be at a good track car price.
Thanks again for all of the info.
if your going to do a lot of tracking make sure you install the X-51 oil pan so you don't get any oil starvation.... for $200 its cheap insurance that works...
as for the temps... get a low temp 160 t-stat and a 3rd radiator installed... there is also a fan mod you can do... all the cooling you can throw at it helps... and will help you make more HP on a hot day than cars without these mods...
