Warm/hot pressures will vary depending on the humidity of the air in your tires (water vapor expands as it heats; race teams use filtered nitrogen to fill tires to reduce amount of water vapor and thus expansion).

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was wondering if anyone can give me a base line tire pressure. Also, is it best to messure tire pressure with hot or cold tires? I've got Yokahama AVS Sport tires.

POST 2Original post

Car and tire manufacturers always provide recommended COLD pressures. Warm/hot pressures will vary depending on the humidity of the air in your tires (water vapor expands as it heats; race teams use filtered nitrogen to fill tires to reduce amount of water vapor and thus expansion). At the track, however, you'll very rarely ever cool your tires down enough to get a true cold pressure reading. Rule of thumb - modern performance street tires (NOT slicks or "R" compound tires) generally work pretty well around 40 psi HOT. Depending on hard your driving, ambient temps and even whether you're parked in the sun or not, all will affect how hot your tires get and how much the pressure goes up. What I always recommend: start with something like 36psi. After your first session, check your pressures. Lower them until you get to 40. Actually, you'll probably lose at least 1-2 psi just from your cool down lap and driving to your paddock area. But reading 40 psi HOT after you get out of the car is a pretty good target. Keep checking after each session, and try to maintain at 40 psi. And keep a written record of your starting and finishing temps. You'll pick up on this pretty quickly. On a hot day, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 8-10 psi bump in pressure from cold to hot. Also, once you're comfortable, you can start adjusting pressures to change your car's handling (more or less under or oversteer). Have fun, and be safe! vty, --Dennis

POST 3Original post

I usually try for 36/44 hot on my street tires.
