I guess that will change 10-15 years from now when they are more affordable to the 944/968 crowd...

It is very strange there are so many 996/Boxsters running around and they amount of info is limited.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Okay I have a pair of standard heated, black leather 996 seats with embossed crests on the head rest. Which are full power 8 way. I also have a pair of new to me Sport seats out of a GT2! They are sweet! Brand new condition with embossed crests on the head rest. They have manual rails and no Heat.
Here is my question I looked at the bottom of the seats it looks like the rails are held on by a large torx bolt on each side of the rear and plastic fasteners in the front (Giant Zip ties so to speak)
Are these the only points holding the rails to the seat?
I am assuming to do the swap I will be swapping the switches too?
Finally what is involved in swapping the heating mechanism inside the standard seat? Or is that a HUGE project in itself, not worth doing? BTW I Have only turned my heated seats on once in my Jeep so I doubt I would use them...Maybe it would be smart for me to pull the wiring out of the car and sell the seats with the wiring on ebay it could bring more $$$ for the seats? Is this an option many people want to upgrade to?
Thanks for your help and suggestions...
Eric
Sando you are in a different league now, i wonder how many 996 owners are hands-on guys like yourself? Probably not that many, most 996 owners either lease or pay someone to do the type of mods you are familiar with! Good Luck with your 996!
The seats are held by 4 torx bolts. The ones in front ar ehte same as the ones that you see in the back, but they are hidden under the plastic snap on covers. Easy as pie to remove and replace the seats.
As for swapping heating elements, I guess you're on your own. Good luck!

jsonnen...I am starting to see that... Very different on this side of the fence... I guess.. It will be quite a learning curve the 968 as rare as they are have lots of online documented answers to questions... I guess that will change 10-15 years from now when they are more affordable to the 944/968 crowd...

Thanks man that is exactly what I needed... I promise, within the next 2 years I will have the same level of knowledge for the 996 as I do with the 968. It is just going to be a bit more challenging this time.
i've heard that you can put the heating elements into the seats without too much trouble. when i was looking around at the time i bought my car a couple of dealers had cars i liked, but without heated seats. they said it would only be a few hundred dollars to turn them into heated seats.
