Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My '03 C2 sunroof had an annoying squeak right over my head after the second week of my 4 week ownership. So last night I took some white lithium grease which I had around for obscure nautical reasons and ever so lightly smeared the two slide rails near the forward end. Lo-and-behold! no more noise. Does the teflon tape thing work too?

POST 2Original post

teflon tape only sticks under pressure around round objects. it doesn't work very well on flat objects. the lithium grease was a good idea!

POST 3Original post

Beware of oil or grease. See Loren's comment: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=721

POST 4Original post

lithium grease is ok. it doesn't dry or crack rubber seals. DO NOT use petroleum-based greases!!!

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Teflon_Jones I wonder if anyone makes teflon tape with adhesive one side. It would be ideal for this type application.

POST 6Original post

they definitely make some. it's called "skived PTFE". but it's really for industrial applications. i think it would work fine in this though as long as you totally degreased the guide rails before applying it. you'd have to take the rails out of the car to really clean them though since any sort of cleaner that will get the grease totally off will also harm your rubber seals. so yes, you could use that, but it would be expensive and time consuming to apply, and lithium grease does the trick just as well. good idea though webtool!
