Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

i'm a longtime bmw owner.. anyway a friend is selling his 99 C2 cpe 6 sp w/ 20k miles. I am clueless about porsches.. i think this was teh first year of 996s. should i avoid 99 C2? what's trade in value/wholesale/dealer prices on this car? also what are soem things i should look for in this car that are known to fail, etc? finally are preowned, outofwarranty porsches just a really bad idea? (never had a pcar b4)
also, how hard is it to mod the looks of teh car to newer versions, like the headlights, bodykit, rear wing, etc?
any help will be appreciated!
thx!!
My goodness! Welcome to the board. Do you realize that you have just asked a series of questions that took several hundred posts to cover over a long time period on this board? It would take another several hundred posts to answer you!
Your best bet would be to do a search. You could also just peruse several pages of all the threads posted, going backward in time. There is a wealth of information in there for you about the '99 996. You can also check this link out for some basic info:

. After some background, you can be more specific.
My best answer to you is that all Porsches are excellent cars. 1999 was the first year of the 996 Porsche. In buying a second hand car, make sure to do a PPI or Porsche inspection by an authorized Porsche dealer, and make sure you have all the service papers and documentation that all TSB'S (technical service bulletins) have been addressed. A well maintained used Porsche is a treasure, a neglected one a money pit. Mods are easy, depending on how much money you are willling to spend. Just make sure the car itself is in excellent shape.
Go Bucks!! Find out a price on the car. and if you are going to pass, maybe I'll grab it if it's reasonable. Anyhow, yes, do some searches and you'll see some very recent threads on your subject matter.
regards and welcome,
Patrick,
I saw your question regarding where Prov1 lives. I live in West Bloomfield and drive a Black 2000 C4. I joined the local PCA chapter several months ago. So far I've only attended the Fall Color drive. I'm interested in getting together with other Porsche owners for drives in the area. I'm always looking for good roads.
If you're located in the greater Detroit area and are interested let me know. I'd be more than happy to get together sometime.

Prov1,
Palting's right! Spend all the time you can on this board looking around. You will get years of knowledge/experience about ownership in a short amount of time. Since you know the owner and the history of the car you're in a good situation. Nonetheless, make sure a Porsche dealer inspects the car. An absolute MUST!! Don't ruin a friendship over some hidden repair that might cost big bucks.
In regards to pricing, check out Ebay. The site have tons of cars and by tracking the cars you'll see where the market stands. Mileage is a major determining factor in the price of the car. Also, check out other used car websites and see what private parties are asking for comparable models.
I'm in Detroit, see above post to Patrick, so if there's anything I can do to help let me know. Best of luck!! Be forewarned "THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE".
