Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

As shown here in red: Mine are the ugly blackish with the grey specs on them and I want to change them out. However, they have a bunch of Phillips head screws on the back....don't know if it's as easy as removing the HVAC duct and unscrewing them from under the dash or if it's a real PITA. Here's a picture of them removed with the screws:

POST 2Original post

good DIY tips on doing this @ renntech.org. This one is the "best" IMHO: http://www.renntech.org/forums/tutor...ps-how-to-pic/ also a good post here (#6): https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...xperience.html

POST 3Original post

I removed mine (without damaging them), painted them alumalook silver, and reinstalled. It is kind of a PITA to get to all the torx screws on the back of the trim strips, but it came out nice. Beats using a soldering iron on my dashboard, IMO. I mostly used the DIY in post #25 here . You can also find some suggestions here. https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...sh-strips.html The two on either side of the steering wheel weren't bad. You need to remove vent near the driver's side door to get to the one near the ignition. I had my gauge cluster console off anyway for another job, so the one between the steering wheel and the radio was easy too. (not sure if you need to remove the gauge console, but it made it easy) The one on the passenger side was a pain in the @ss. It took a long handled driver, a swivel extension, a torx bit, a mirror, and a flashlight to get to six or so torx screws that hold it on. I got it eventually. I sanded and painted them, then put them back on. I also did the rosette surround around the ignition. That pops right off.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks! That's what I needed to hear! Looks great frisbee!

POST 5Original post

its hard, you have to get in, under, behind but you can glue or silicone some back in

POST 6Original post

thats correct, its tedious and a little awkward getting under and behind and so forth,

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
