Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.

Engines that do not make the rating are stripped down till the problem is found.
Leading evidence: 'found' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'found' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Run around' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

While we did not see any 997 prototypes running around, we did see a new engine.

They also showed us the test room where all the engines are run on a dyno for 30 minutes.

But they did say that it spends about 30 minutes on the test bench where the maximum power output is measured.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

While in Germany for the CarreraGT day, we also decided to make a trip to Zuffenhuasen for the factory tour.
We went through the engine production facility. There we got to see where all the Porsche engines are being built and tested. They also showed us the test room where all the engines are run on a dyno for 30 minutes. German law states that the engine has to make within +-5% of its reported power. Porsche uses the +5% figure only. Engines that do not make the rating are stripped down till the problem is found.
The assembly line for the drivetrain and the body was also interesting. To hear about the just in time process is one thing, to see it in action is another. They tell us that mating the drivetrain and suspension to the body only takes five miuntes.
We all saw seval turbo cabs running around... production versions getting ready for shipment. While we did not see any 997 prototypes running around, we did see a new engine. We did see something a Carrera engine with a silver intake manifold. The build sheet showed it as an M97 engine, but they quickly hauled it away before we could look at it to closely. Perhaps a 3.8L engine for the 997? We also saw a parts bin showing 997 on it?
All in all the facility was facinating to see in action.
I'm going to Germany in Mid October and plan to visit the factory as well. For now, I've put off purchasing a '04 C4S, hoping to have a better, more informed decision upon visiting Porsche.
Do you have any Stuttgart hotel and restaurant recommendations?
We stayed at the Steinburg Graf Zeppelin... or something like that. It is right across the street from the main train station in Stuttgart. It was very nice and clean. Years ago, I stayed at the Hotel Unger, which is a few blocks away from the station.
Sloth,
Thanks for the report.
When engines are dyno'ed - how much time is at full throttle ?
Having you go into the testing room seems to be something new, as my tour two years ago, only pointed to the engine testing room.
My guess is the M97 is for the 40th anniversary edition.
Sorry for the confusion, we did not actualy go into the engine test rooms. We could easily see them from where we were and they spoke specificaly about them. They did not specify how much time it spends at each RPM level. But they did say that it spends about 30 minutes on the test bench where the maximum power output is measured.
As far as the M97 engine goes, it was said elsewhere that it is the powerkit engine for the 40th anniversary 911.
