With the 030 or the X74, you know that Porsche has actually tested the package for:
Leading evidence: 'Test package' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace height of the vehicle you are' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

When you change the height of the vehicle you are changing the area of where the shock piston sits at normal height.

One thing you have to remember when you change springs is that the stock shocks are tuned by the factory to operate optimally with the height set from the factory.

I have H&R coilovers in my 2001 C2 cab and I love them I think the best way to upgrade your porsche suspension if your going to do anything to it is to use coilovers.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi, I am planning to lower my 03 C2 and am considering several options. I don't track the car and I do mostly city driving. I did some research and the Eibach kit lowers the car 1"(front and back) and the H&R lowers it 1.25"(front and back). Which is a better kit to go for in terms of quality, handling, and ride comfort? Or are they both no good? I know there's the Row030 kit but I think it lowers it too little with 2cm(front) and 1cm (back) to dimish the wheel well gap. Any input is appreciated, thanks
I have the H&Rs.
Love'em.
Very little change to ride quality. Better all around. Not too aggressive.
(I race on weekends so this is my daily driver on crap Michigan roads)
Lowered just right. No rubbing or any weirdness of any kind.
My personal opinion, based on years and $$ spent on aftermarket suspension tuning, is that the factory knows best.
What I mean by this is that the factory engineers have designed a couple suspension choices for the 996 that are matched fully to the car. With the 030 or the X74, you know that Porsche has actually tested the package for:
- perfect damping rates in all conditions
- integration with bump stops, rollbars, etc.
- balanced aerodynamics
- balanced handling in all conditions
- wear & tear on the car (the x74 comes with chassis reinforcement because Porsche understands the stress on the car.
- etc.
IMHO, most aftermarket kits are designed to:
- give the car a pretty ride height
- feel like they handle well,
but, I can guarantee they haven't been tested w/the rigor of the factory system.
I'm not saying all aftermarket stuff is bad, but having factory tuning options is a huge benefit of driving a Pcar.
because i have been doing DEs, autocrosses and the like for the better part of 10-yrs i beg to differ with you on your assessment of the 996. The RoW M030 is still too tame for spirited driving. If i had to do it all over again, i'd go with the bilstein/h&r/koni coilovers and adjustable bars. BTW, h&r, bilstein, koni, et al have all been or are currently OEM suppliers to Porsche and are just as intimate w/ the 996 as the factory is.
I found the inner rears wear a bit more quickly.
My car sees several track events when I'm not in my kart.
I would love far more aggressive setup if I didn't use it as a daily driver.
I have H&R coilovers in my 2001 C2 cab and I love them I think the best way to upgrade your porsche suspension if your going to do anything to it is to use coilovers. One thing you have to remember when you change springs is that the stock shocks are tuned by the factory to operate optimally with the height set from the factory. When you change the height of the vehicle you are changing the area of where the shock piston sits at normal height. This changes the dampning ability of the shock and may cause the shock to bottom out on certain roads. A person who has H&R springs in a 2002 turbo complained that the ride was really bumpy and he felt like the shocks weren't working so he changed them to H&R coilovers. He said that the ride was much smoother and the car handled much better than when he just had springs. Whatever you do decide to do make sure you get an alignment because Porsche steering is very sensitive and no alignment can lead to a shaky steering wheel.
