Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

One preventative measure that I take is that I have one credit card with a relatively low limit that I use exclusively for on-line transactions or small time vendors.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 2Original post

That is scary! Do you have any idea what company(s) you had transactions with in the past 30 days?

POST 3Original post

I don't understand why it's an issue. It's happened to me. Somebody cloned my credit card and spent 4500 on it. Called the credit card company and they cleared it. End of story. It's just a 5 minute inconvenience.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

as it applies to me,it is not a 5 minute inconvenience.called credit card company n was given the impression that no admission of any liability on their part untill their investigation is completed.,which is going to take weeks!the major inconvenience is that i cannot now take it for granted that it is secure shopping online for parts, which i have been doing over the last week!(and really enjoyed it).

POST 5Original post

Is this a canadian thing? I had some a$$munch buy airplane tickets (about 6 tickets) on one of my cards and the charges were taken off with minimal hassel. I buy online all the time for about 5 years now, and this is the only time it happened.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

what a coincidence, this transaction was for airline passage as well .transaction originated in mexico as the currency conversion rate depicts .

POST 7Original post

Knock on wood, I've never had a problem with fraudulent on-line purchases. One preventative measure that I take is that I have one credit card with a relatively low limit that I use exclusively for on-line transactions or small time vendors. That way, if I need to cancel that card it won't impact the card I'm carrying in my wallet. Here's an interesting story...one night my wife got a phone call from Mastercard asking about a number of purchases that had been made that day...nothing spectatular, just groceries, gas & clothing about 40 miles from home. She didn't recognize the charges and when she pulled out her wallet.... her card was missing, probably lifted at the health club. Pretty amazing that mastercard knew it was stolen before she did. They reversed all the charges.

POST 8Original post

Fraud is always a possibility with credit cards, whether on-line or not. One of the local Wal-Mart employees just got sacked because she was keeping her won record of several credit card numbers, for her own future use. The key is to be aware of the potential for fraud, be on the lookout for identity theft, and work with a credit card company that deals with it with you with minimal hassle. I do almost all purchasing of electronic items on-line, and the list of categories keep growing.

POST 9Original post

Consumer proetction rules on credit card purchases vary greatly depending on where you live. In many countries, the consumer is on the hook for charges until the company is notified that the card is missing, for example. In the US, it is a relatively minor annoyance, expecially for on-line purchases where you are absolutely not on the hook since the merchant doesn't have your signature. The much bigger problem is identity theft, and rapidly growing is fraud related to E-bay, where much of the stuff seems either fake, stolen, or non-existent.

There are a couple good web sites with info about identity theft. http://www.consumer.gov/idtheft/ and http://www.identitytheft.org/ http://www.justice.gov/criminal/fraud/idtheft.html
