I ran another 2K, changed it and had it checked again and the levels were closer to normal.

i know that it sounds weird, but if you qualify as a "normal use" driver, why not just follow the factory recomendations?

I found that there was a higher than normal content of metal in the oil. I ran another 2K, changed it and had it checked again and the levels were closer to normal. I now change every 3K. I would highly recommend that you change before 1k and have your oil analyzed. It was the best $35 I ever spent.

don, it is normal for metal content to be somewhat high during break in. the valves are seating and the oil temp is higher due to friction. the oil analysis will show the residual of all this early friction. as the engine breaks in, the oil analysis will normalize. if you change your oil too early, it is possible to prevent an early break in. i know that it sounds weird, but if you qualify as a "normal use" driver, why not just follow the factory recomendations?

As I said Doc, I'm paranoid. Seriously, I didn't want that high metal content in my oil as it worked thru the motor. My results were compared with others and my metal content was higher than normal. Check out the oil analysis site I listed in an earlier post. (I have no connection with the company btw) They also post coded comparable results that offers a fairly good baseline.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
