POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Can't decide what my new 996 C4S color should be. My last car was silver and was very easy to maintain, although I am weekend detailer. I'm a little bored but I hear a lot of folks complain how hard it was to maintain black and switched to silver. Arctic silver is very nice on the C4S, but having just seen a black C4S 996 at a dealer showroom, it seems to make the Porsche stand out more, appears to be more dramatic, the front of the car seems to be have more attitude, if you know what I mean. But silver brings out the little things like the front and rear vents. My dealer claims arctic silver also makes the C4S look wider, bigger vs black. I wish this was easy. This is the first time I have seen a blck C4S 996 and it sure looked great! Your comments, pro/con, one vs the other? thanks in advance.

POST 2Original post

I have Midnight Blue and if your willing to clean the car every weekend then go for black. I think dark colors make Porches much more aggressive. Just remember on dark colors swirl marks and light scratches show up very easily. So when washing make sure your sponge has no dirt on it. Even sliding your finger on a dusty car will create micro clear-coat scratches visible under flouresent and sun light.

POST 3Original post

Black looks awesome on a Porsche! I would seriously consider it on my next p car, but it's sooo damn hard to keep clean.

POST 5Original post

Speed Yellow. Definitely for my next 911. And am I the only person in the world who likes Zanzibar Red?

POST 6Original post

How about white? Very rare and looks stunning in person and in pictures.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I agree, white is stunning and rarely seen in a C4S, have seen C2 and Cabs in white, both were great looking.

POST 8Original post

I have always wanted a silver Porsche. That makes my bias pretty obvious. It is easy to clean, no swirl marks EVER, and you don't even have to wash it that frequently to look decent. And when you do detail it, Arctic silver in the sunlight and in the glare of streetlights at night is just awesome. It does bring out those big nostrils on the C4S and TT, as well as the other black accents. Dark colors, black among them, will give a more dramatic look, a more sinister look to the car. It also makes those silver wheels stand out more. It does require more work to maintain, and that is what sets out the Porsche owner of a black car. He likes to detail the car, and perseverance and patience will definitely be rewarded. It will definitely set that car apart. Me, I guess I'm sort of lazy. I detail my car. and detail it well, probably about once a month. You say you are a weekend detailer. If you like to do that weekly, then I would say go for the black. And don't get the metallic. The non-metallic black has a deep darkness to it when properly maintained that is hard to beat. I am not going to say anything about a white (white?) Porsche .

POST 9Original post

it is a personal question. there is no right or wrong answer.

POST 10Original post

Doc Jackson is right of course. But if you've never had a black 911, you need to do it...........course it will be the last black one you buy I've heard it said, absolutely nothing looks better than a clean/polished black 911..........I have one, have concoured it @ 'Parade'....and agree w/that statement. Then the other comment would be...........this 911, I plan to spend more time driving, and less time (swirl-removal) cleaning.

POST 11Original post

I had the same issue. Wanted silver but thought it was a bit unorignal. At the end I got Polar silver which just has a hint of blue in it. Looks fantastic in my mind!

POST 12Original post

How about seal grey? http://hobbystage.net/porsche/scottw/ -Scott

POST 13Original post

Well, I had an absolutely breathtaking dark blue 993S that looked superior when clean, and while it was a labor of love...it was a labor. Then I went to AS, which I highly recommend along with PS or SG. Like I said in another post those neutral colors allow your wife/girlfriend or whatever to wear any color and still look great! Beautiful car but a real PIA to keep clean Can't go wrong with this color or PS or SG

POST 14Original post

I have a black C4 Cab, and I wash it every saturday. Some people might think it's excessive but I actually enjoy spending a couple of hours going over every inch of my car. And of course, once washed, it looks fantastic!! Nothing like a black Porsche...

POST 15Original post

Slate Gray is the best color. i have a silver C4S now and i love it. think about it how long u gonna keep the car. if more than 3 years, get the silver. it will save u tons of time and make u smile in the long run. figure u know the reason yourself. i think my next Porsche will be Slate Gray, or.... silver

POST 16Original post

http://hobbystage.net/porsche/itzkirb/ Seal Gray get my vote!

POST 17Original post

Before I picked up my seal grey C4S I ran a black (non-metallic) 986S. Absolutely loved the look when it was clean. I would probably buy a black boxster S again because it looked so good...and then regret it. GreggT and Palting are so right...swirl marks are a real issue. If you've got the time, well.. I would go with seal grey again on my C4S and never look back.

POST 19Original post

Seal Gray........my next Pcar colour for sure.... Go have a look at Nacelle's new C4S. Wow!!!!! https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...threadid=79336

POST 20Original post

Of course seal grey is a great color. Check out my signature for more pictures.

POST 21Original post

Speed Yellow - no swirl marks, easy to keep clean, doesn't show a clear bra like silver or black does, and a whole lot less common than silver, black or seal which seem to account for 90% of all C4S's. You can also get matching stitching, console, seat backs and seat belts, then again, yellow isn't for everyone...

POST 22Original post

When I bought my first Porsche in 1988, everything, and I mean everything, was either black or Guards Red. So of course I bought Marine Blue w/ Linen leather off the dealers showroom floor, where it had languished for months. That was a great looking car, but no one wanted it, and it was therefore a great deal. When I ordered my present Porsche, a C4 Cab, I decided to go with a traditional Porsche color, Guards Red, which in these pages is much maligned. The truth is, it is a great looking color, easy to maintain (non-metallic), and look clean even when a bit dusty. GR is an old, historic Porsche color, and looks great with black with deviating red stitching, red sport seatbacks, and a red console. The Savannah interior also looks nice with red. If you want to be very Y2K and see yourself coming and going a hundred times a day, get silver or seal gray. Judging by the dealer lots that I have seen, they are the most popular colors, and let's face it, silver is a very traditional Porsche color. Second choice for me was Polar Silver, with a nice blue tint to it, but very expensive, in my opinion. With apologies to all devotees here, I simply think that silver and grey are, well, sort of bland, but they are definitely hip, in an Armani-esque sort of a way, which is to say, chic but austere. My red Cab looks like a sports car, and the nice policeman in my town agreed last week when he pulled me over for speeding. I've wanted to weigh in on these endless color debates for a long time, and now that that's off my chest, I'll go back to work. Cheers to all.

POST 23Original post

Prior to my '03 Speed Yeller C2, I had an '02 Seal Grey C2. Beautiful color, but man was I tired of seeing it everywhere. If you don't live in an area crawling w/ P-cars, I guess that wouldn't be a factor. But I enjoy the relative exclusivity of a SY car, and I've always lusted after one. I've never been a big fan of metallics on sports cars, much preferring black, red, yellow, BRG, and white, though Arctic Silver/Polar Silver are classics, and show off the 911's contours better than anything else, IMO. If still undecided, get B,R,Y, or W because the cost savings will pay for the matching center console. But what the hell do I know? It's your money, get whatever color you see yourself enjoying the most. -DT

POST 24Original post

The reason I like the grey's and silvers is because it does show off the contours of the cars that black hides. There are so many good colors though. Guards Red and Speed Yellow look great. P-cars aren't that prominant in my area, so my next car is gonna be seal grey. I love the polar silver, but think it looks better on the 993's.

POST 25Original post

Its a matter of preference. When I see a black C4S a few months earlier, i'm hooked. Whats do most P-drivers here use to wash their babies?

POST 26Original post

Black with Black interior. Or if Cabriolet: Triple Black Nothing looks as good as a clean shiny Black Porsche, specially at night. There is a reason why black is color code A1 with Porsche!

POST 27Original post

I see a lot of AS C4's, more then black I think. However, I just saw a Black one the road Sunday and man it looked HOT. I agere with many of the posts. Black definatly looks more agressive, but you do see some of the details a little better on the AS. I don't think you could go wrong with either. I drive my car mostly on the weekends and I went with Black. Sure it takes a little more TLC to keep it looking great but I don't mind.

POST 28Original post

How about Dark Teal Metallic? I saw a C2 this color a few weeks ago and was surprised how good it looks in person. Right now it is my second favorite after Slate Gray.

POST 29Original post

Ok, I posted some of my black C4 Cabriolet. https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...threadid=80593 It was last washed on Saturday, waxed with Blackfire on the 4Th of July. I drive it about 60 miles daily and garage it at night. I don't think maintenance is all that high considering how good A1 Black looks.

POST 30Original post

I have a Slate Grey C4 Cab - love it - but just saw a Viola Violet C4S at the dealer and my jaw dropped - absolutely stunning! Porsche's deserve to be unique - and this color is amazing! I'm likely going to order my C4S Cab in Viola with black roof/black full leather...

POST 31Original post

I didn't think that color was still available. I damn near bought a new C2 in Viola/Space Grey in '99. Great color! Different, indeed, and awesome. -DT
