Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ive looked at the installation instructions from Porsche and my question is in regards to the "pin removal tool". The dealer says the one tool listed in the instructions is not available. I understand the purpose of the tool and remember seeing pin removal kits when I worked at a TV repair shop as a kid. Can you complete the install without it? Anybody have any ideas on where to purchase (MAC or Snap-On)?

POST 2Original post

Yes, you can (and many have) spliced into the same wire.

I have put in 2 kits and we are making a DVD of the second install. There are 2 sets of instruction, issued 5/20/99 and 11/11/02. You must have the '99 TSB as pin removal tool 87050 is only in that TSB. I was unable to buy it or even the entire electrical tool kit. Sir Tools makes a pin removal tool #9701. I bought it not just for lits but because it fits many connectors. Bought it from Skyway Tools for $12. If you plan to work on Porsche electrical stuff then buy it. If you use it you must first unlock the back of the connector or you cannot push out the pin out with the tool. But as Loren, said, all you are doing is combining 2 wires. You can use wire taps or scrape some of the insulation off the original wire then solder the new wire directly to the original wire - that is how it is done in the new TSB. Porsche therefore has 2 ways to combine wires. I do it my way. I remove the pin from the connector then solder the new wire to where the original wire is crimped to the pin - then put the pin back into the connector with the 2 combined wires (do not forget to relock the back of the connector).
