Suggestion

It is a complete and utter mystery to me why seemingly intelligent people on this board and elsewhere insist on dealing with thinly regulated risk retention pools like Warranty Gold where you never know if they will even be around to pay claims rather than purhasing an extended warranty from a real state regulated insurance company where your premium investment is pretty much assured if you just check the the company's AM Best rating.

Suggestion

Last I checked, however, you could get a policy from Great American Insurance (who I have no connection with - but know to be financially sound and an admitted carrier in CA and most other states) for my 00' 996 for about $2,500 (about the same price being charge by the risk retention pools).

Suggestion

I certainly hope people start getting their head screwed on right when it comes to these extended warranty companies, as I think I'll have a coronary if I have to read another post from someone consdering a policy from a risk retantion pool without even checking price and availability from the admitted insurance carrier market first.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

does anyone have good experiences with ext. warranty companies

POST 3Original post

I have a warranty from 1sourceautowarranty and they came through on my first (and only) claim. It was a small claim, but they were easy for the service manager to deal with and covered it. As far as I've heard recently, this is one of the better experiences. I don't know how they'll do in the long run, and hearing about the negative experiences with Warranty Gold recently made me ponder calling and cancelling my coverage (to get the balance back). I'll keep my fingers crossed.

If anyone has an answer to this mystery of consumer behavior I would be very interested to hear it

POST 5Original post

because there aren't many regulated extended warranty's around that will cover cars like these as well as offer affordable rates

POST 6Original post

That must be the misimpression that is out there. Last I checked, however, you could get a policy from Great American Insurance (who I have no connection with - but know to be financially sound and an admitted carrier in CA and most other states) for my 00' 996 for about $2,500 (about the same price being charge by the risk retention pools). No connection here as well, but here is the number for one agent who offers the Great American policy and maybe policies from other admitted carriers. [phone removed] Their website is www.aawarranty.com I certainly hope people start getting their head screwed on right when it comes to these extended warranty companies, as I think I'll have a coronary if I have to read another post from someone consdering a policy from a risk retantion pool without even checking price and availability from the admitted insurance carrier market first.
