Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
For some reason a chip is much easier to repair than a scratch.

I have used the LANKA kit on small chips and it worked well. Also tried it on a scratch about 1/2 inch and it just didn't work well.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi -- I was hit with a steel rod on the highway today. I have a (deep) 8 inch scratch to repair on the front quarter panel. Basically it looks like I was keyed.
It appears to be all the way to the metail and it cant be buffed out for sure.
I don't want to have the panel painted and would like to determine the best touch up repair method.
TIA
Ouch! man an 8" scratch down to metal is more than a paint chip touch up.
I am afraid its a trip down to the paint shop.
I managed to get a 2 inch scratch from a fuel pump nozzle jumping out of its holder. The clearcoat and the paint is damaged. bUt it isn't down to the metal. Howver, even this is a paint shop job.
I can feel the pain....
Best of luck to you.
What a bummer. I'm not an expert on this but I can point you to a couple of websites. If you don't have a factory paint kit, you can go to
www.paintscratch.com
and get your color. I've used them and the color match for my Arctic Silver was great.
There is another website for paint repair.

I guess a lot depends on where your scratch is in terms of how well it can look after it is repaired.
Good luck!
I have used the LANKA kit on small chips and it worked well. Also tried it on a scratch about 1/2 inch and it just didn't work well. Repeated the process several times but it can still be seen. For some reason a chip is much easier to repair than a scratch. Good luck.....an 8" scratch would have me insane!!
For the depth and length, I would say to take it to a proper body shop for a respray. Do take some before and after photos so you can show that the repaint was performed to fix a scratch and not from an accident.
Thanks guys. There is no way I am going to repaint. I am going to go for a professional touch up. If anyone has a recommendation in ATL, please let me know.
