I don't want to change the exhaust or replace the airbox for an aftermarket item, as I'm not convinced they give any additional perfomance for the cash outlay.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Are there any mods that can be done to the airbox to make it sound a bit better ?????? I don't want to change the exhaust or replace the airbox for an aftermarket item, as I'm not convinced they give any additional perfomance for the cash outlay. There is a mod that can be done to the 993, is there a similar mod for the 996 ??????? Cheers, SP

POST 2Original post

The airbox has a small muffler within it to keep it quiet. The simple mod that I've done simply blocks off the muffler. Airbox mod details Further steps would be to remove the screens (for slightly increased hp and better throttle response - from what I've heard) and/or cutting holes in the bottom of the airbox to release more of the sound. Another member has done this and is happy with the results.

Or just keep your foot in it! Stock exhaust sounds great once you get up on the cams! -DT

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I'll try the screen removal and blocking up the airbox muffler mods to see if that gives the sound I'm after. Ceers, SP

POST 5Original post

Would this mod eliminate the need for a Fabspeed exhaust, etc.?
