Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello i installed the pse +headers + cats on a c2 2001 at a local shop. The car sounded great till i notice exhaust fume smell on one side when i start the car. The right muffler sounded really off, the noise is weird but it sounds awful. I had my original muffler rattle and its not quite the same noise as that noise was consistent, even after a 3 hour drive i would still hear the inner muffler rattle. then i bought the pse exhaust. In this case with the pse the noise is loud and awful the first 15 mins then it settles down, at idle after driving car sounds fine, no indication that a baffle on the pse is loose, but difficult to tell. What i noticed : 1) car smells when i start it, never did this before , on one side only. 2) terrible noise for about 15-20 mins while driving. 3) after the drive , at idle car sounds normal, leak smell is gone. I have warranty on the pse but i need to dismantle everything, i do not have original cats and headers. can a clamp cause all this noise? Any suggestions?

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Red yes i saw the gaskets when they installed it, this happened after 8 months so it sounded great at the beginning but they i noticed a smell in my garage, from there it was getting worse and the pse sounded like they was a hole in the muffler..Suncoast cant do anything unless they hear the noise and my local porsche dealers are quite the bunch so...i need to solve this myself. can a loose clamp cause the muffler to sound like there is a hole in it? Red are you selling your turbo twists?

POST 4Original post

hmmm, you might need to put it on the lift and check for any damages (punctured holes, loose bolts).... might also want to recheck the torque settings on the headers.... it could be any of the exhaust components so dont just blame PSE as any of them can cause an out of the norm noise and smell. As for the turbo twist... Ive considered selling them, they have MPS2 with 700 miles on with a weekend of DE's. I like my sport design so much I rarely put them on now, If interested make me an offer.

^^ Ferd really takes care of all his toys. The wheels are in great shape.

POST 6Original post

Curious to find out what is going on with your car. My PSE just started sounding like hell 2 weeks ago as well. Seems like the Porsche exhausts (esp. PSE) are prone to failure. AA

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i have no idea yet. i know my original muffler failed but its not the same rattle. i hope others post with similiar issues. This weekend i will get this done.
