Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
Had this problem with my Boxster early on and it proved to be a flying insect that got in the car and remained out of sight most of the time I was in the car only coming out after I had parked the car.
Leading evidence: 'flying insect' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'flying insect' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check dampness' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

So you have to check for dampness under the seats around the door bottoms.

Weird things happen, usually door or window related, but check the doors for any signs of dampness or sloshing water sounds when shaken just in to be thorough.

With the use of a hose and power washer I found it.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

On my 04 C4S CAB the alarm has been going off for no apparent reason lately.
Does not look like any aftermarket gear is installed. I even locked it with the double press on the remote and it then goes off with blinking lights.
Any ideas what to look for?
Scan (PIWIS or durametric) for what faults are triggered. Tracking down electrical gremlins can be a PIA. Look for any loose or frayed wires (any chance varmints get inside?). Sometimes it is just a battery on its way out.
Had this problem with my Boxster early on and it proved to be a flying insect that got in the car and remained out of sight most of the time I was in the car only coming out after I had parked the car. Its fluttering around set off the alarm.
After I finally put 2 and 2 together when the opportunity presented itself I smashed that bug flat.
Had this happen again but not so bad as the first time -- it was embarrassing my new Porsche false alarming in the parking lot at work and being paged over the intercom -- until I got wise and from then on I stopped leaving the car parked with top down. Heck I don't' even lower the windows a bit.
Same goes for my 996 Turbo. I leave the sun roof closed and the windows up whenever the car is parked.
However, it may not be an insect.
So you have to check for dampness under the seats around the door bottoms.
The water drains can back up and (wash or rain) water can collect and overflow into the cabin and the low spot in the cabin is under the seats and under the passenger seat is the alarm module.
Another area of possible concern is a door seal lets water collect in the door in an area that gets the door electrics wet. Weird things happen, usually door or window related, but check the doors for any signs of dampness or sloshing water sounds when shaken just in to be thorough.
Last it might be a problem with one of the many switches or other components of the alarm system. This system can be queried with the proper diagnostics computer and the tech can possibly know what is going on if anything with any one of these components.
No moisture in the car at all. Although I have narrowed it down to when it rains. We have more storms due today so it is parked right outside my office so I can watch it. Someone suggested it may be an issue with the rain sensor on the windshield. Hummmmm
Found the issue! My thought that it was rain was right. With the use of a hose and power washer I found it. The fuel actuator switch has come out of it mounts and is flopping around (and may be unplugged).
I needed to replace my wheel well liner anyway so I will fix it at that time
