Does having the switch pressed as if the clutch is in somehow change the engine dynamics enough to mask a problem?

Leading evidence: 'switch was faulty' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'switch was faulty' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace engine dynamics enough' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

When I bought my 996 about 8 months ago the sensor that detected if the clutch was depressed had a zip tie on it. There was no need to press the clutch while starting. I did not think much about it other than likely the switch was faulty. Yesterday I went out and decided to take it off as I was going to replace with new switch. To my surprise it seemed to work fine. Soon after went on a 30 minute drive and the check engine light came on. The code was for the o2 sensor. Is it even possible the 2 are related? Does having the switch pressed as if the clutch is in somehow change the engine dynamics enough to mask a problem?

Yes before clipping the zip tie.

POST 4Original post

If you're talking about the clutch switch that prevents the starter from starting unless the clutch is depressed (seems like you are), I think it's very unlikely since the sole purpose of that switch is to cut the power to the starter UNTIL the clutch pedal is depressed fully. Once the engine is running, it serves no purposes.

Maybe bad gas or loose gas cap?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I took it to my "closest workshop" to be looked at. P car messages make me laugh.
