Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

my car came with this cover at the crankcase and I havent seen another one like it on forum pictures. I assume is for protection of the crankcase??

POST 2Original post

I think you'er right. I recall it being a stand alone option or part of a small package that included the protection plate. Maybe with the Tip.

POST 3Original post

OEM engine skid plate. A popular option or add on to protect the oil pan.

POST 4Original post

As Alp stated, it's a skid plate to protect the oilpan. Based on the condition yours is in, it's doing a hell of a job. Might be time to replace it.

+1 It's definitely doing a good job. For anyone else looking for a little extra protection, Click Here for more information.

POST 6Original post

Skid plate, also doubles as an oil catcher, when you pull the drain bolt it fills with oil then spreads it all over the garage floor!! Insert a 1 1/2" tube in the opening to drain the oil through to save yourself a major clean-up. Mine has a couple of dents in it from road debris, can't imagine why they didn't come as standard equipment.

POST 7Original post

And it was a part of the Porsche X74 suspension package (for lowered vehicles).

I pull mine off when changing the oil. 3 bolts and its off. The skid plate pays for itself 100 fold if you bottom out on something.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks guys, I think I will put it back on.
