Reported cause
Montreal proved to be brutal to a lot of the cars but it is clear that Mercedes is still the class of the field.
Leading evidence: 'brutal' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'brutal' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Run away' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
The Mercs were well in the lead by the middle of the race and would have easily run away with another 1-2 finish if the cars held up.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Great inter team fighting with Mercedes. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed that their winning streak has come to an end. Happy for Ricardo and Vettle. Seems like they are making some good progress. But I'm sick about Ferrari. Alonso is so good, but that car stinks. Ferrari is better than that. And poor Kimi...
And wholly cow with that last lap crash. Massa has the worst luck.
My money is on Rosberg for the championship. He's really showing why he deserves it.
I don't usually comment on these posts but I will say Massa should've been more aggressive and taken the risk to go offline into the marbles to pass Vettel instead of watching Vettel pass Perez first and then try to get aggressive and ultimately crash. This is the way I saw it at least.
I was bummed to see Louis retire again - I'd like to see him take Mercedes to the championship - but the amazing part of the race for me was to see Perez and Massa pack into the walls without being seriously injured. I understand the engineering that goes into making those cars survivable, but it always blows me away to see it in practice
The cars' design to sacrifice structure to shed kinetic energy results in some SPECTACULAR destruction. 27G into the walls, and both guys were unharmed.
Maybe they just didn't broadcast it, but it was nice to hear less whining from Louis.
Less whining from Hamilton is good. 5chn3ll, I read this am that the massa shunt was 32g! That's insane and for both drivers to walk away is really a marvel of safety/technology. And they'll race again in two weeks. Talk about nerves of steel. I agree Massa should of been able to make the pass sooner. To me, he's never been the same since his big accident from a few years ago. I can't blame him.
Having more crashes than most people may not have a lot to do with luck. He messed up badly trying to overtake Perez.
Maybe? But he should have been punished yesterday; almost anyone else would have been.
But for the DNFs beyond his control, Hamilton would still be in the lead.
+1
What an awesome race...especially the last several laps when everyone at the front was scrambling for position. Of course none of this(at least the battle for P1) would have occurred if it were not for the Mercs experiencing some type of mechanical issue(s). The Mercs were well in the lead by the middle of the race and would have easily run away with another 1-2 finish if the cars held up. Montreal proved to be brutal to a lot of the cars but it is clear that Mercedes is still the class of the field.
Now if the FIA would just abandon the fuel flow restriction rule and allow the cars to rev higher so they don't sound like lawn mowers...
Damn, I really miss the trademark sound of F1 racing!
I'm very happy for DR, he seems to be a great guy and he was genuinely appreciative of the win. How can you not root for a guy like that? Also, I was very impressed by the sportsmanship Vettel displayed towards his teammate after the race. I am not a big Vettel fan but he gained a few points in my book.
The talk of a perfect season is ended, but I can't see any way for Mercedes to lose the constructor's championship this season. If other teams reach parity with Mercedes, there's still a massive points defecit to be overcome before Mercedes would fall from the top position.
I just find this season to be brimming with delicious irony as Red Bull struggles after four years of (somewhat) smug superiority. And that Vettel struggles while the "junior" driver on the team consistently performs well, and in obvious great cheer, makes my black heart sing.
I am glad that Lauda is in a good position with Mercedes, but I just can't warm up to Rosberg. I am no great fan of Hamilton, but I hope he comes on song and takes the driver's championship. Ideally by one or two points, at the last moment. I am a vengeful bastard.
I do spare a tear for both Ferrari and McLaren. Both powerhouse teams seem to be well off the mark. I do recall Ferrari's "lost decade" when nothing went well, season after season. I hope this isn't the start of a second period when the team is exiled from victory circle. A determined competitor like Alonzo needs a car with a chance of victory, or he'll be off to another competitive team at the first opportunity.
Both Force India and Williams are excelling as constructors from the second echelon. Well done, fellows.
I don't know. It looked like Perez dropped the anchor. Maybe the rate of closure was deceiving due to Massa not braking. But whoever was at fault, the RoC was huge and obviously caught Massa off guard.
I know, he gets the big bucks to not make those mistakes.
TC
If you look at the aerial replay, Perez clearly turned into Massa (taking a defensive line?) who was travelling at a much higher rate of speed. I like Massa and initially thought he was at fault but looking at the replay, not so much. Massa was super hot going into that turn, not sure he would've made it if Perez didn't get in his way.
The last 10 laps were fantastic until the crash brought out the yellow flag.
Both Massa and Perez turned in
Watched the replay over and over you can clearly see it
Not picking who's at fault that's up to the Stewards, right or wrong
Either way as I've previously indicated, if Massa had been more aggressive and been able to pass Vettel a couple laps earlier, he might've had other opportunities to pass Perez in a less risky way on other parts of the track. At least Martini is getting their money's worth.
